Randy Price Posted August 15, 2019 Posted August 15, 2019 What I'm getting at is does multiple uses on the same senko/tube worm loose it's effectiveness? I've noticed that sometimes when I loose a worm that I've used multiple times and put a fresh one on that I get more bites. I'm using Gary Yamamoto's and Kalin's they both have garlic/salt or something infused in them and on them. I'm assuming that that scent wears off after multiple uses. Thoughts/experiences??? Quote
Super User tcbass Posted August 15, 2019 Super User Posted August 15, 2019 With it the Senko Wacky Tube Rigged I’ve had a single Senko last nearly all season. When I do lose them is when sunnies nip the ends off or pull it through the tube. 2 Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted August 15, 2019 Super User Posted August 15, 2019 No, they do not lose effectiveness. Generally, I replace the Senko when it is lost or torn. 2 Quote
Super User Sam Posted August 15, 2019 Super User Posted August 15, 2019 I fish my Senkos wacky with electrical shrink wrap tape and the Senko will last through many catches. I think, if I recall correctly, that I caught 10 straight bass on one Senko wacky rigged with shrinking electrical shrink wrap tape holding the hook in place so as not to tear the skin. Of course, I have had some really big hits on a Senko and some great fights and the Senko would go flying off the hook leaving me with only the electrical shrink wrap tape on the hook. Quote

I am happy if a GY Senko lasts more than 1 fish. They are brittle and its a price that is paid for the action they have. Quote

Yes I'm using real GY's and Kalin's. I have noticed the GY's aren't as durable as the Kalin's or Gulps. Quote
JediAmoeba Posted August 15, 2019 Posted August 15, 2019 I feel those worn in senko that are starting to look like they have been through a pricker bush work better than a new one. Quote

Super User ChrisD46 Posted August 15, 2019 Super User Posted August 15, 2019 If it's made from Z-Man Elaztec - once per year (lol !) 2 Quote
Dens228 Posted August 15, 2019 Posted August 15, 2019 I've caught one fish on a Senko before I've replaced it, I've caught several before I've replaced it. I guess it depends on how ticked off the fish I just caught is! LOL If I can't get the hook to hold the Senko right I replace it. Quote
Randy Price Posted August 15, 2019 Author Posted August 15, 2019 I use an O ring so that I can catch several fish potentially before loosing or breaking the worm. what size hook do you guys like for wacky style. I've been using a 3/0 EMG. I know it's big but I've had issues with the bass swallowing smaller hooks. Quote

I've tried Senkos and some knockoffs and always end up with the 5" Senko. I just use those now. I just buy a few packs whenever they go on sale. If you purchase gift certificates from Tackle W. when they are on sale and then use those later to purchase the Senkos when they are on sale you can get a pretty good deal. Quote

I actually wasn't referring to the monetary price of the GY Senko. I was referring to the trade off of lack of durability for the type of action the bait produces. Albeit, in comparison to similar looking stick baits, they demand more money. Quote

Even with the o-ring a Senko can rip with one aggressive fish. I have had days Senko fishing where the bottom of the boat was littered with ripped baits. I started using the creme stickbaits, sold at walmart. they have nearly the same action as a senko and only cost $1.25 a bag. 2 Quote
Super User WRB Posted August 15, 2019 Super User Posted August 15, 2019 If I catch 3 bass on any soft plastic it's usually torn or gone. If torn I put it my used worm bag and Mend-It if I run out of that particular color. You can always add more scent. Can't even comprehend using the same soft plastic worm all day without replacing it. Tom Quote

Super User geo g Posted August 15, 2019 Super User Posted August 15, 2019 They do not lose effectiveness once torn up a little. When one end gets torn up I turn them around, I will then bite off the torn end and rerig. Then I will use them wacky when the ends are badly torn up. I catch many with one senko, or senko type bait. I get the most out of my baits. Quote
Super User NYWayfarer Posted August 15, 2019 Super User Posted August 15, 2019 With a true GY Senko I get 2-3 fish per bait wacky rigged with 2 crossed O rings. The GY senko is so soft it often breaks at the spot where the O ring is. I get upwards of 10 fish on a Yum Dinger rigged the same way. Quote

I switched to a tube and now one may last over 50 bass. 1 Quote
Super User QUAKEnSHAKE Posted August 16, 2019 Super User Posted August 16, 2019 With x-0rings and mend-it 10-15-20+ bass. There are those times it gets flung off after one bass but but if I see a slight tear starting I put it away and fix it use it over and over. Quote
Hawkeye21 Posted August 16, 2019 Posted August 16, 2019 If I don't break my line I can use the same Z-Man plastics for a couple outings and catch a lot of fish. I know I've caught close to 50 fish on one TRD. Quote
Jaderose Posted August 17, 2019 Posted August 17, 2019 All I know is the bottom of my boat is strewn with bit-off Senko tips. Quote
Super User FishTank Posted August 17, 2019 Super User Posted August 17, 2019 If I don't add more scent, maybe 2-3 hours if I don't catch anything but if the fish are biting, senkos usually last 1-3 fish. Quote
