I've been looking into a casting rod for lighter applications, and these two seem to be just what I'm looking for. I actually don't have the scratch for the G Loomis but I'm interested in anyones input who may have used both to hear their thoughts and comparisons.

G Loomis 7' GLX 842 MBR casting rod (8-14lb line & 1/4-5/8oz) compared to a Shimano 7'2" Expride A Medium light + (7-14lb line & 1/8-5/8oz) Loomis also makes the 852c JWR in an E6X version. Unlike a lot of people on BR I really like the Gen 2 E6X rods.

I’d get a kistker.   Sign up for their newsletter and wait for a sale.  I really love mine and can’t wait for a reason to buy another.   While the glx is a great rod they are pricey and don’t get the e6x.  I’ve had trouble with durability,  cork falling apart.

I have three E6x rods that are great. I have zero issues with them. In fact I think the gen 2 E6x rods are excellent.

I’m not a hater on the performance of the e6x but between my fishing group all of us have had issues with the cork splitting, reel seat sucking or loosening, etc.   We ran into the same issues with the gl2 and gl3.  Our consensus is if you buy gloomis go big (glx or nxt) or buy kistler!!!

What kind of cash do you actually have to spend? Not trying to detail the thread but just curious. Maybe we can help find you a rod in your price range suitable for what you want to do

I have the GLX you mentioned and it is fantastic.  A true joy to fish.

It doesn't throw the lightest of baits as good as a spinning rod, but paired with the right reel, it's close.  I use braid or braid with leader. The shimano is good, but falls short in feel, and sensitivity.  Truth  be told, I love MBR'S and seldom loose fish

I'm more in the Expride price range than the GLX.

I'd look at the kistler he3's in that case. Awesome rods on a very sensitive blank. The medium power rods should be very similar in action to the 852
