Treble hook removal ?

Today my partner fell and hooked his popper in the back of his hand and didn't want to go to the hospital.  I remembered this video and a minute later, POP.

Works like a charm and pain free.  A little hydrogen peroxide  and good to go.

.....I knew watching all the fishing videos on YouTube would someday pay off...

I had this happen earlier this week!

Unfortunately it was too deep for the braid trick, and it was somehow stuck to where I couldn't push it the rest of the way through to clip the barb so I went to the hospital. It took the doc a couple attempts to push it through even with my finger numbed because it was stuck so bad!

Man, that looks painful. Getting hooked in the fingernail area of the hand makes me think this was not a fun experience. Ouch!

I had a hula popper hook in my knuckle after missing a strike. It was headed for my face. I couldn’t push it through but just popped it out with pliers. Always wear eye protection.

I hit the lake for a quick outing and upon my return to the launch, three guys were giving advice to an angler with a hook in his palm.  The advice ranged from letting a Dr. at the nearby ER take it out, to pushing it through and cutting it below the barb, to 'just get your long nose and pretend you're unhooking a fish (arrrggg).  He tried removing it himself and was getting in his car to go to the ER when I asked if I could try a way I'd used just prior that day. One pop and he couldn't believe how easy and painless it came out.

The only downside to an attempt to remove a hook this way is that there must be someplace to hold the hook eye down on. Unfortunately for j bab, that was not the case. Sometimes you need to let professionals remove a hook and if you're not comfortable with the area where the hook, is err on the safe side do just that.

Saw a bad one today and the removal was "unexpected".

 

Fishing with a coworker and he had a treble very much like the cringe-worthy photo above, except that the point was buried in his finger and not exposed or even close. The hook was buried well beyond the barb and down to where the hook curves. dang that hurt just looking at it. I'm cringing now.

 

We had just set out. We'd fished once before from shore but today we were on a boat. Oh crap this looks bad! Right next to the nail too. So nasty!

 

I've never yanked a hook and it looked way too deep and sketchy to try. I've seen several videos on how to do it and I told him I was willing but I dunno man, this looked like a bad angle and it was deep.

 

I cut the line from the lure. Shoulda left the GoPro on.

 

He then grabbed some pliers and grabbed that hook and started trying to work it out or something. I'm like dude oh crap we're in trouble. We just launched we can't go to the E.R!

 

He pulled that thing out. Took a minute but he got it. I didn't watch, I wasn't sure what he was doing. I was astounded. He laughed having the hook finally out. "Weren't so bad!" He says, "I pushed opposite the side of the barb like you said as I did it"

I've fished for 30 years and had never had nor been with anyone with a hook buried. Then last year...cousin swings on a fish with a jig and missed and it ends up buried to the bend in the back of my arm. He's like aw man I cant push that thing thru ur arm. I'm like yeah bruh u put it there ur pushing it thru. We push it thru and cut the barb off. A month later my dad loses a fish on a duo realis jerkbait and it ends up in the back of my foot. Used the braid pop trick and honestly amazed me that there was no pain what so ever...worked like a champ.  2 weeks later my dad buried one in his knuckle and once again the braid worked wonderfully.  None in 30 years then 3 in 2 months but all were removed with no doctors or medical Bill's! Guess it could've been worse

I buried a hook in my finger this weekend, stupid pike, popped it out with a piece of braid.  Works like a charm, don't feel anything when it pops out.  Just make sure your piece of line is long enough, not too short like my brother's first try, just yanked my whole hand.

I've had to use the braid trick a few more times than I would have liked

 

Since I usually fish by myself and hook myself in the hand most often, I have to tie the braid to something stationary, push down on the hook with the other hand and then jerk the hand with the hook in it away from the object you tied the braid to.
