I have a Lew's LFS SSG1SHL that has a drag issue currently. I left the drag tightened down unintentionally and the washer has become fused to the main gear. I discovered this when I broke it down this weekend for a detailed cleaning.

I've been looking online for carbon fiber drag replacements for this reel and the newer LFSs that I have. Does anyone have any experience in this area? I've contacted Lew's about obtaining a replacement rulon drag but haven't heard back from them.

I'd call lews and find out if the carbon fiber tournament pro drag will fit in your reel.

Email me and I’ll hook you up with the right parts.

Will the carbon drag from the tournament pro fit the first gen. LFS reels? How much r the parts approx. I have 3 LFS I might want to convert.

Still waiting on a reply back from Lew's. I had asked in the email if they had carbon fiber drags available for the previous/current gen LFSs so we'll see what they say. I may take you up on that Delaware Valley Tackle.

Spoke with Lew's today. Great customer service. They are sending me out a new drag and drag spring so I can take care of it. I asked about a carbon fiber drag for the LFSs, to which he said it can be done, but would require a new main gear (with notches for the drag) and a new drag stack. I didn't ask about the cost but assume it wouldn't be worth it. New Rulon drag should be here next week.

I have had similar issues with the LFS. I had bought two of them together, both manyfactured in Korea. That probably doesn't matter but... Neither had a really good drag out of the box but not too bad so I went ahead and used them on and off for about a year and the drags on both continued to get worse. Slip ,grab.slip ,grab. Finally got so bad I broke them down, cleaned them up, polished everything real good and put them back with grease on the sprocket and bottom FIBER washer. Then put top of gear and top washers on clean and dry. One reel came out excellent. Smoothest drag I've ever had. The other one is stilled screwed up no matter what I do. Go figure!!
