DanielG Posted August 9, 2019 Posted August 9, 2019 I just ordered a Dobyn's rod on Amazon. I'm going from a spinning rig to my first bait casting rig. I'd already decided on a Curado dc. Had to pick one and after research it looked good. I was flummoxed though by the number and types of rods. All are wonderful depending on who's talking about them. I decided on a Dobyn's 735cb Glass. $239. No one carries them here in my corner of Maine so I'm online. Amazon has Prime so they take it back with little fanfare should there be an issue with it upon delivery. I'm looking at it on the Amazon site over a period of days, and bookmark the rod at the standard price. Today I'm on the bookmarked page and the rod's price is $125.01 with $6.88 tax. I'm looking at the name, description, etc and it all seems up and up. It says "the735cb glass is a medium heavy fast action glass crankbait rod rated for 10-20 lb. Line, 1/4-1 oz. Lures." And it's listed as new, And ships from and sold by Amazon. I immediately ordered it and it's delivery time is by tomorrow evening. A few minutes later I go back to the bookmarked page and it's listed at the $239 price. And it's still at that price. I have email verification of the correct item and the lower price. Waiting for delivery tomorrow but half believing something is amiss. Anyone ever heard of this happening or if I'm screwed? When it arrives I'll repost to tell you the results. I think I should also check my Amazon CC online to see the amount I was billed. 1 Quote
Russ E Posted August 9, 2019 Posted August 9, 2019 sounds like a mix up on Amazon's side. If you got the 735 CB for $125.01 you got a good deal. the 735 CB champion usually costs over $200.00. the $125.01 is closer to the price of a Dobyns fury. Quote
Super User NorthernBasser Posted August 9, 2019 Super User Posted August 9, 2019 If it was a mistake and they charge you the full price, you can always get it cheaper at TW when they have their Labor Day sale (15% off). Quote

Ya, I've got a Fury as my spinning pole ($119) The Champions is supposed to be $239.. we'll see. 1 minute ago, NorthernBasser said: If it was a mistake and they charge you the full price, you can always get it cheaper at TW when they have their Labor Day sale (15% off). I just looked at my Amazon CC online. It's been charged the $131 (pole and tax). Now if they just send the pole I hope I'm getting I'll be gleeful for sure. It would mean a 52% discount. 2 Quote
Junger Posted August 9, 2019 Posted August 9, 2019 Amazon bots sometimes make mistakes like that. I got a 6'10 MH Tatula OG rod for $91 a couple years ago. They will charge you the amount you placed the order at. The caveat is, if it was in stock then it will ship. Sometimes it won't be in stock and the drop ship from the manufacturer but what they will do is wait and wait and wait and then tell you the order can't be filled. Quote
waymont Posted August 9, 2019 Posted August 9, 2019 Prices change like that quite frequently on Amazon. If you keep stuff saved in lists, the prices fluctuate often, not always at that high percentage but it does happen a lot. I bought a Fenwick Elite Tech rod for $79.00 that was $149.00 for 2 months and dropped to $79.00 for 3 days, then went back up. Enjoy your good price. Quote
Smalls Posted August 9, 2019 Posted August 9, 2019 It happens pretty frequently. A bunch of guys on the swimbait universe page got some Dobyn’s Champions for $100 a while back. Quote

Notice from UPS to expect the delivery today, so it looks like it's coming. Interesting that the price drop was for about 30 minutes. Then it went back up. Strange but welcome. Quote
FishinBuck07 Posted August 9, 2019 Posted August 9, 2019 Darn the bad luck! If you get the rod you thought you were paying for congrats! Pass some of that luck onto someone else! Quote
DanielG Posted August 9, 2019 Author Posted August 9, 2019 Well, it came and it's here and It looks like the right one at the $125 price. What luck.... My Curado dc and line are coming in after the weekend. I ordered mono line. I currently use fluorocarbon on my spinning rig. The mono is supposed to be easier to start to get used to a casting reel, or so I understand. Later on I can strip it off and put on fluoro or braided. Or I might just stay with mono. I've always liked it, feels comfortable to me after using the fluorocarbon. I guess I'm used to the stretchy even though it's not always desirable for some fishing situations. 2 Quote
Timberwolf530 Posted August 9, 2019 Posted August 9, 2019 I've had that happen to me from time to time. I got $179 boots for $49, $99 struts for $19, and various other things that were $10, $20, $30 cheaper for some reason, then the discount just disappears. Quote

I've picked up some terminal tackle, like Gamakatsu and Owner that are like 60% off from TW retail prices, and then when I go back to buy more, the prices change back to normal like 2 mins later. Consider yourself lucky and you got a great deal! Quote

Super User FishTank Posted August 10, 2019 Super User Posted August 10, 2019 Great deal and a really nice rod..... I too was lucky with Amazon awhile back. I picked up a Abu Garcia Winch Gen 4 for $144.00. It has been a great real so far. Quote
