JSB Posted August 8, 2019 Posted August 8, 2019 I know this has been brought up here before and I’m sure a lot times lol im looking for a chatterbait rod that I will also be using for spinner baits and some cranking, I’m up in Canada and don’t have a lot of largemouth around me but there are some so looking for a multi use rod to save some space In the rod locker. right now I’m looking at St.Croix and G.loomis E6X mostly because of availability locally and saving on shipping charges. I've done some searches on here and haven’t heard of some of the brands never mind seen them locally in stores Quote
GReb Posted August 8, 2019 Posted August 8, 2019 I can vouch for the Kistler KLX and Falcon Cara. Both have great actions for all around reaction baits. 1 Quote
Dens228 Posted August 8, 2019 Posted August 8, 2019 I currently have the AvidX in MH/Fast that I use for what you're planning to use. I highly recommend it. 1 1 Quote
Super User Jig Man Posted August 8, 2019 Super User Posted August 8, 2019 I prefer MH 7’ rods for spinner baits and chatter baits. I need a M for cranks. I am using Gloomis, B & R Outlaw, and All Pro rods for those. 1 Quote
JSB Posted August 8, 2019 Author Posted August 8, 2019 I have a 7’ medium (I think or medium light) Falcon as well so I don’t mind going to a MH i won’t be getting into any real heavy slop or largemouths so I don’t think I need a heavy even though there seem to be a lot of them Also what are everyone’s thoughts on heavy moderate vs MH Fast? RichF Posted August 8, 2019 Posted August 8, 2019 The Kistler KLX Feel n Reel 7'2 MH is perfect for all of those techniques. 1 1 Quote
Super User MN Fisher Posted August 8, 2019 Super User Posted August 8, 2019 In general - I've been throwing chatters and buzzbaits on a H/F and spinners on a M/F. I have a MH/F coming tomorrow and it will be the new 'bladebait' rod. Cranks I've been throwing on the M/F or the old M/M, seems to be better on the latter, so my wishlist now has a better quality M/M on it that will be my crankbait rod. Quote
JSB Posted August 8, 2019 Author Posted August 8, 2019 What make of rod is the MH you just ordered? i work away 3 weeks at a time so you will probably get to use yours before I even get home and go looking lol Quote

It's another Aird-X...though the crankbait rod I'm looking to get is a Tatula-XT (TXT701MRB-G) Quote
JSB Posted August 8, 2019 Author Posted August 8, 2019 I really like the Loomis E6X’s but they don’t really seem to have a rod that lines up with what I’m looking for I’m still not sure about MH/Fast vs H/Moderate either Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted August 8, 2019 Posted August 8, 2019 None of those really require anything special. A rod with a suitable lure weight range and enough backbone for the cover in 7’> will do nicely. 1 1 Quote
newyorktoiowa57 Posted August 8, 2019 Posted August 8, 2019 Expride 72MHgass is great for chatters! Shimano also has the same model in the zodias and in the new Intenza lines, though the latter isn’t available yet from what I can tell. 1 Quote

Of the 3 lure groups which 1 do you use the most? Length preference? Quote

I got the 7'3" H a few weeks ago, awesome rod for 1/2oz and up chatterbaits and spinnerbaits. Great hollow body swimbait rod too. 1 Quote

The first 2 I already have and I will be picking up a DC next and will shuffle around with what I already have to see what fits where the best. most likely power pro superslick, in 8lb diameter. 6’11” - 7’5” at max, my center rod locket only holds 7’ but side holds up to 9’6” and I can shove over the Musky gear a bit it will be a pretty even split of the 3 to be honest, I’m fairly new to chatterbait fishing but have already had some decent results on the smallies with them and when I do get out for largies I will be doing a lot of searching to find fish, I will probably use it to throw cranks for bass and walleye and spinnerbaits for small and largemouth 95% of the time or more it will be 1/2oz as the heaviest bait thrown Quote
Mikeltee Posted August 9, 2019 Posted August 9, 2019 Get a moderate action at least 7' long. MH for 1/2oz and less. H for >1/2oz. You didn't state your budget. I like having good sensitivity so that I can feel what the lure is doing. I use a Dobyns Champion 765cb graphite. Its pretty much all purpose and can throw lipless, 3/8-1/2oz chatterbaits, and DD up to 22'. Glass works as well but has reduced sensitivity which is not ideal for me. Dobyns Champion 735cb glass is what a lot of people love for your intended purposes and is what Gary recommends. It is a glass composite but I would assume has enough sensitivity to feel what your lure is doing. I plan to get this rod in the distant future. I have a couple of NRXs on my list for now. 1 Quote

Super User WRB Posted August 9, 2019 Super User Posted August 9, 2019 Dobyns DC 735CB is a good choice for your applications, about $240. 8 lbs braid on a bait caster isn't a going to work.. Tom PS, email Gary about shipping tp Canada, TW I believe will ship rods to Canada but I don't know if the add shipping cost. Quote
JSB Posted August 9, 2019 Author Posted August 9, 2019 Thanks, I will check them out the 8lb diameter superslick hasn’t given me any trouble on my chronarch and the Ike is either 8 or 10 as well Quote

I am thinking you mean 30 lb that is .011 dia equal to what PP says is 8 lb mono. Tom Quote

JSB Posted August 9, 2019 Author Posted August 9, 2019 So I have a TW cart going right now with the Kistler and Dobyns in it and can’t decide on which one lol Quote
