Topwater Rod Suggestions

So I have a 6'10" Shimano Crucial that I use for topwater. it is a MH, but the only problem is it is a XF. While I like the soft tip for twitching, I do not like it when a fish is hooked because it hits the backbone of the rod too quickly (it was billed as a jig/t rig rod with the etched jig on the butt of the rod). Are there rods that are 6'10" MH, but a fast action, but with a limber soft tip? Thoughts?

The med hvy crucial rod tends to be fairly stiff and not a very good rod for treble hook baits.

The expride 6'10" is great for topwaters and jerkbaits. It is a much softer rod.

I hear the megabass one ten special is also a superb rod for those techniques.

Any rod that is not quite so stiff and fast would probably do well.

What top waters are you throwing? Frogs, poppers, spooks, WP....they're all different.

Yup, the Falcon Cara Finesse jig rod is perfect. It’s a 6’10” MH with a fast tip. Perfect for topwaters, IMO. I’m sure the Expride is also a nice rod and should do well.

this would be for spooks and walking baits/ bigger topwater. i have a 6'6" medium fast for small poppers jerkbaits and i have a dobyns 735 for my frogs

The Kistler Helium3 6'9" MHXF has a soft tip that works really nicely for walking baits. Some people say "when you forget to delay setting the hook, this rod does it for you". It's more like a Fast action given the soft tip. It's also very light and easy to fish all day. I love mine.

What line are you using too? On some rods where it's light cover, I use mono for some "cushion".

i use mono. i am currently using yozuri hybrid, but will probably be switching to sunline defier

Try that route first before spending a lot of cash on a whole new rod. I use a 12lb Big Game mono, and it has a lot more give than the YHB that I use on my other rods. I don't have any experience with Defier, but apparently that's top of the line mono.

i use yhb and while i get okay hooksets from far, the closer the fish gets the backbone of the rod gets extra noticable and i wish for a more parabolic bend to the rod. i don't want something like a crankbait rod, hence why i say something with a fast taper instead of an xf
