What's the best and worst fishing advice you've ever received?

My best was a friends suggestion to pick-up a copy of 'Fishing Facts' magazine (this was back in the 70's). That advice got me started on my bass fishing addiction.

I've gotten more than my share of bad advice from friends, family and other anglers. The worst was likely from a friend that cautioned me not to join BASS and fish their sanctioned tournaments in my area. "You'll loose your love of the sport and become too focused on catching." I'm not sure exactly what he meant by becoming too focused on catching, maybe that I'd miss out on the beauty of nature, or the up side of the solitude of being alone on the water. Either way, I'm glad I ignored him.

Worst advice - you don't need to wear a life jacket since you are fishing water that is shallow and you can just stand up.

 

Best advice - no matter how shallow you think it is, there is a fish there.

In July, she responded organizational psychologist Adam Grant’s Twitter callout for the worst career advice people have ever received. Her response: “an internship at the white house will be amazing on your resume,” followed by a blushing emoji.

Best advice: Watching Hank Parker pull out his pocket rocket when he was snagged. Basically a 1-2 ounce weight on a swivel. Get hung up? Put it on your line, drop it down to your lure, shake a few times... Wallah! That small little trick that I could not believe I had never thought of has literally saved me hundreds of dollars. Thanks Hank! ?

Hon. Mention: Trophy bass are more willing to bite around the new moon and full moon. I read this once in a list of statistics compiled from a survey on certified trophy bass catches. My last 2 PBs were caught around the new moon.

 

Hon Mention 2: Get out early. Don't oversleep. My last two PBs have also come around sunrise.

 

Worst Advice: Check the solunar tables before planning a trip.

Worst advice: Switch up lures every 15 minutes, only fish mornings and evenings. Trust Lunar calendars.

 

Best advice: Fish right after rain showers, hop jigs like texas rigs, set the hook the second you feel something tap your line.

Worst- The water is 85 degrees, there aren’t going to be any shallow fish.
