billmac Posted August 2, 2019 Posted August 2, 2019 Hopefully I'll get to spend a few hours on Schroon Lake this Saturday. Weather looks to be fair. While I will target the normal bass and pike, I know there are lake trout and landlocked salmon in the lake. Do these require special equipment? I'm not going to go too far out of my way to catch them, but I'd give it a shot if they can be caught with normal bass gear. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted August 2, 2019 Super User Posted August 2, 2019 Don't know much about Schroon Lake. I fished the river a couple falls ago, and caught plenty of smallmouth and some monster blue gills. I'm thinking short of down riggers and trolling gear, you could use a heavy jigging spoon, if you were to locate lakers on the graph. On Canadice Lake (deep and clear), we were able to hook up with a few lakers trolling deep diving crankbaits. Good luck! Quote
Super User webertime Posted August 2, 2019 Super User Posted August 2, 2019 For Lakers, the hot thing here on Champlain is a 1+oz jighead and a 4.8-7.8" Keitech in white. Cast out in 70-130' let hit bottom. Then jerk up and reel up about 30' then open bail and let fall. Kaboom! That being said Schroon has good smallmouth in it and worth just going after them. 1 Quote
