Super User scaleface Posted July 26, 2020 Super User Posted July 26, 2020 I have rediscovered Beetle Spins during this heat wave , having caught 49 largemouths and smallmouths so far in the month of July . They are like M&M's to bass . They just cant leave them alone . 2 Quote

Super User scaleface Posted July 27, 2020 Super User Posted July 27, 2020 The yellow with black stripe .I bought Wal Mart out so had to get some white with the red dot . If the hooks get bent I toss them . They are cheap enough to not take chances with a weakened hook . 1 Quote
dopey Posted July 27, 2020 Posted July 27, 2020 Been making and using them for years! It's one of those have to have lures!! 1 Quote
Captain Phil Posted July 27, 2020 Posted July 27, 2020 A better lure for bass is a Mepps Comet minnow. Great for schooling fish. 2 Quote
Super User WRB Posted July 27, 2020 Super User Posted July 27, 2020 Gave up on Beetle spins too many dinks. Strike King Rocket Shad has been a productive compact spinner bait for over over30 years. Note; super glue gel on the skirt threads, replace the cheap double hook with Gamakatsu light frog hook or add #3 split ring with Owner 4102 1/0 single replacement hook. Tom Quote

Tom I have a bunch of Rocket Shads too . I like them in heavy current like below a dam and deep water . I dont change hooks but do wrap wire around the shafts to keep them from coming off during a fight . That has happened too me two maybe three times while fighting good sized hybrids . Quote
Super User WRB Posted July 28, 2020 Super User Posted July 28, 2020 Appologize for hijacking your Beetle Spin thread. Tom Quote
waymont Posted July 28, 2020 Posted July 28, 2020 I've been a Beetle Spin style bait fan for a long time. It's definitely a numbers bait, but also catches fish when other stuff won't, and plenty of bigger fish. Here's my take on it. 3 Quote
Super User scaleface Posted July 29, 2020 Super User Posted July 29, 2020 Out of town this morning and stopped at a tackle store . Found the old large sized Beetles . These are bigger than the 1/4 ounce size available now . I bought all of them . 2 Quote

zell_pop1 Posted July 30, 2020 Posted July 30, 2020 You can still buy the big beetle spins. They are listed as saltwater version. 1 Quote
Elkins45 Posted July 30, 2020 Posted July 30, 2020 40 years ago when I was in high school I did 90% of my fishing with a Daiwa Minicast rig. The three most common lures I used were Rapala/AC Shiner, super floating worm and Beetle Spin. I still keep some of those 40 year old lures in my box. 1 Quote
Heartland Posted July 30, 2020 Posted July 30, 2020 Grew up fishing Beaver Lake in AR, particularly the Indian Creek and Lost Bridge areas, my Brother liked to use a Beetle Spin in purple and I generally fished one in yellow with black stripe. Lots and lots of fish caught on these baits. Zebco 202 and 33 reels on 5 1/2 - 6 ft fiberglass rods. 2 Quote
Super User soflabasser Posted August 7, 2020 Super User Posted August 7, 2020 Beetle spins are good lures to use when fishing in rivers. They mostly catch small fish but they can also catch big fish. Quote
