But it’s still not flush with the floor when in use, so storage is really the only point of it.

?

That's the point.

You can store it when transporting such as crossing a lake when it could fly out of the boat or being trailered and when you are fishing the lid is closed and the foot pedal is on top so that you can use it.

The foot pedal is not supposed to be used while inside the compartment like cable driven foot pedals are.

Electric foot pedals are also a lot lighter than cable driven ones so much more likely to go flying when transporting.

Gotcha.  Thanks for clarifying.  So the problem of an elevated foot pedal still hasn't been fixed in this case.  Its simply for transporting purposes.

How is is the problem not resolved?

I actually don’t like my foot pedal in the center.

If I am fishing to the left I move the foot pedal to the left and if I’m fishing to the right I put the foot pedal on the right side.

Electric foot pedals when placed on a boat deck are just the right height IMHO, may not be right for other folks.

With my electric steer, being flush to the floor and immovable, would make it more difficult for me to operate the way I want.

I use a Minn Kota Ulterra so I’ve never liked built-in trolling motor foot pedal boxes like most guys who use cable driven trolling motors like. I even built a custom box riser so my foot pedal would be level with the rest of the boat’s deck.

Well, I see that the new 2020 Rangers have an integrated foot pedal box with lid which is so nice. I like it because:

1.)  Makes the foot pedal level with the rest of the boat deck.

Because Electric Driven trolling motor's foot pedal's are considerably shorter than cable driven's when they are put in a recessed box they are basically level with the boat deck and wouldn't work. Being right on top of the deck is perfect height for electric driven foot pedals.

So which is it? Do you like the foot pedal to be level with the rest of the boat deck?

or right on top of the deck because they are basically level with the boat deck and wouldn't work?

Maybe now you can see the confusion of what you are saying.

The part of the pedal your foot touches would only be about 1 to 2 inches off the deck, That is hardly the problem of the past, causing the angler to stand like Captain Morgan, 4 to 7 inches off the deck level with one leg. The choice is up to the angler which they prefer.

You may not remember some of the old trolling motors, but the pedal for an old OMC foot controlled trolling motor was really tall, the Motorguide are pretty tall as well.

Most anglers that prefer electric pedals are happy with them just sitting on top of the deck..The storage box just becomes a nice option for storage of the pedal.

On top of the deck, just like this pic.

And then in the new Ranger it would be stored in the compartment for travel.

This whole thread ( along with the new pedal storage box), just seems kind of not needed at all. I have a Terrova on my boat, and have never, ever had an issue with it “flying off the boat”. Now granted, my rig will only do about 50mph, but, I also am often on Georgian Bay, otherwise known as the sixth Great Lake, so I know quite well about rough water ?

If your having real problems with the pedal jumping around, get yourself some heavy duty Velcro strips from the hardware store, you can put a few on the pedal bottom and in several locations on the deck if you want ( or just one area if you don’t move the pedal around), and it’ll stay right where you want it in the roughest, fastest ride. Not to mention, you don’t have to lift a lid and remove it every time you get to the next spot or put it back in before you run again.

If you’ve never had a problem with your foot pedal moving then you’re fine. But I did. It flew off the boat and was only not lost because it was connected with the electric cord. And my boat only does about 40mph.

If if you had the new Ranger with the box you just wouldn’t have to put it in there. Problem solved.

Obviously enough people had an issue with it then Ranger decided to make it a standard option on their new boats.

lol....how is this some revolutionary idea? People cut their deck out for a recessed tray all the time on boats that aren't equipped with one. You can literally build exactly this in your own boat and /w far less effort /time than installing the recessed tray....cut the hole, fabricate whatever you want the trolling motor pedeal to be stowed in, and hinge the cutout...

Well, a lot of people have neither the skill nor desire to cut into their $80k boat I suppose and assume this is something that should come manufactured from the factory.

I wouldn't have the tools, skills, or desire to cut into an $80k boat and would be afraid of messing it up and also potentially voiding the warranty.

Obviously there was a demand for this with the rise of electric TMs and Ranger chose to meet this demand with a very functional foot pedal pan.

Electric steer foot pedals are used out on the deck anywhere and are fine without a recess because theyre very thin. This compartment with a cover allows for storage. Or if you switch to a cable drive you could remove the cover and use the recessed tray like normal without having to cut the deck like if you hadn't ordered the tray in the first place. To me this just allows flexibility between the two. Flat deck for electric, tray for cable drive if you want it.
