Jonny15678 Posted July 30, 2019 Posted July 30, 2019 Has anyone used one of these, if so how accurate are they and what are the pros vs cons. Thanks. https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Rapala_Touch_Screen_Tournament_Scale_15lb/descpage-RTDS.html?from=Google&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIzb-r6KDd4wIVP__jBx0VeQ7TEAQYASABEgJvP_D_BwE Quote
Super User Team9nine Posted July 30, 2019 Super User Posted July 30, 2019 Work great! Guess that’s the ‘pro’. The ‘con’ - you have to learn how to use all the settings...entering weights into certain cells, erasing, etc. Not terrible once you’ done it a few times. Wheeler used them on Tour for years before switching to MLF and don’t think they ever let him down. Mine is still working good after numerous years on the boat. Quote
Troy85 Posted July 30, 2019 Posted July 30, 2019 Pro: At that price, shipping will be free and you can get a sticker. I've never used that particular scale, but a buddy of mine has one and he likes it. 1 Quote
Super User Choporoz Posted July 30, 2019 Super User Posted July 30, 2019 No cull tabs, but the KastKing scale/grip combo is a solid (and cheaper) alternative. 2 Quote

How well has it held up against rain and water? Quote

I’m not out in the rain a lot, so I’m not a good judge of that. No issues the couple times it has been out in those conditions. Have had it out in both really cold and really hot weather without any problems. It’s in my boat year round, and I’m always fishing as long as I can get the boat launched into open water. I just replace the batteries every spring. 1 Quote
Super User fishballer06 Posted July 30, 2019 Super User Posted July 30, 2019 I don't own the model you posted, but I see lots of pro's using them on their boats in videos, so they must not be too bad. This model is great if you're trying to keep track of all of the fish in your livewell. I do however own this model. I've had it for about 4-5 years now and it seems that they've changed the appearance of it some, but mine has never let me down. I've checked it by weighing known weight objects to see its accuracy and it's always on. So for that, I'll say that the Rapala scales are pretty accurate. https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Rapala_Pro_Guide_Digital_Scales/descpage-RPGDS.html 1 Quote
Janderson45 Posted July 30, 2019 Posted July 30, 2019 The clip on mine used to hold the fish broke after a few months. I replaced it with a hook from another scale but am now looking to replace that as well. I hate how the fish can jump right off the hook with minimal effort/flopping. I still don’t really know how to use all of the features as @Team9nine alluded to. I clumsily clear and delete weights at random - that’s my fault for losing the instructions and never learning how to properly use it, but it’s not exactly intuitive either. The screen on mine is finicky, tough to read in bright light. It wasn’t always this way, I think it’s potentially taken some water damage. long story short I’m looking for an alternative. It’s been just OK if you ask me, but I’ve yet to find a digital scale that I’m happy with over the years. Love my Boga grips, but they don’t weigh to the same precision as digital scales which can be necessary when freshwater bass fishing. Quote

That's my choice as well. It's water resistant and floats. I purchased it after my last scale died from getting wet. Quote
Harold Scoggins Posted July 30, 2019 Posted July 30, 2019 I've had mine for 5-6 years and check it every year with a known weight, it always weighs on the money. Quote
Super User gim Posted July 30, 2019 Super User Posted July 30, 2019 I wouldn’t use a scale with a hook again. Like Janderson45 said, the fish can flop right off the hook. Use one with a clip. If the clip breaks, buy another one. Quote

Fishin Dad Posted July 31, 2019 Posted July 31, 2019 That’s a great scale! Love mine and will buy another if mine ever fails. Great for tournament culling. Easy enough to use and the directions are sewed into the included storage bag. 1 Quote
Brett's_daddy Posted July 31, 2019 Posted July 31, 2019 This one looks good too, a little cheaper. https://www.amazon.com/Piscifun-Gripper-Waterproof-Electronic-Stainless/dp/B07F753ZYY/ref=sr_1_4?keywords=kastking%2Bscale&qid=1564574427&s=gateway&sr=8-4&th=1 Quote
