Brett's_daddy Posted July 30, 2019 Posted July 30, 2019 Would Power Pro Hi-Vis Yellow braid to a mono/fluoro leader be good for jerkbaits? I know some guys almost always use braid to leader, just wondering if the Hi-Vis Yellow would spook fish? Quote
Efishin Posted July 30, 2019 Posted July 30, 2019 I think if you use a leader material such as fluorocarbon or mono, you will be fine. I know a lot of people like hi vis as it easy to say and for strike detection. Quote
bwjay Posted July 30, 2019 Posted July 30, 2019 If you use a long leader, like 10 to 15 feet, I don't see a problem. You could go shorter like 8 feet, but as you re-tie, the leader gets shorter and shorter, so I'd start with something longer. Quote
Super User Scott F Posted July 30, 2019 Super User Posted July 30, 2019 I don’t believe line spooks fish, so I go straight braid with jerkbaits. If you think it does, and, you believe the myth that a bass can’t see FC lines, use a leader. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted July 30, 2019 Super User Posted July 30, 2019 My take on whether ANYTHING we do in the water near a bass matters: sometimes, but maybe not. Some days, I've watched bass swim away when light fluoro hits the surface near them. Other times, they're attacked my leader knot - no joke. I think this a behavioral variable that must be observed when it happens in order to say yes or no. That I get bit without leaders using bright pink braid isn't proof that it doesn't matter, sometimes. 4 Quote
Super User webertime Posted July 30, 2019 Super User Posted July 30, 2019 Braid color doesn't matter if you are running a leader. I use that Rainbow stuff. That being said I run straight mono for jerkbaits Quote

Super User webertime Posted July 30, 2019 Super User Posted July 30, 2019 I run 10lb Sunline Super Natural. Thin and sensitive sinks just fine with a 78-110 sized jerkbait. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted July 31, 2019 Global Moderator Posted July 31, 2019 I've been using the Seaguar Smackdown Flash Green all year on one of my rods and catching fish with it just fine, even without a leader. Quote
waymont Posted July 31, 2019 Posted July 31, 2019 I prefer yellow braid to mono leader for jerk baits. Quote
Diggy Posted July 31, 2019 Posted July 31, 2019 I use high vis braid and as of recently I will color about 7-8ft of it black with a sharpie. I notice if I spray the braid with KVD conditioner over night, the sharpie coloring stays. Sometimes I use a leader, sometimes I don't. Quote
