Super User Sam Posted July 29, 2019 Super User Posted July 29, 2019 Wife and I may be staying with son and his family in Dagsboro, Sussex County, in September and/or October. Can anyone tell me what are good ponds to bank fish while I am in Delaware? Here is the list from the DNREC for Sussex County public ponds: Abbotts Pond Blairs Pond Chipman Pond Concord Pond Craigs Pond Griffith Lake Haven Lake Hearns Pond Horsey Pond Ingrams Pond Millsboro Pond Portsville Pond Raccoon Pond Records Pond Trap Pond Trussum Pond Tussock Pond Wagamons Pond Waples Pond Your thoughts. Thanks. Quote
Super User Sam Posted July 31, 2019 Author Super User Posted July 31, 2019 Well, that does it. Nobody fishes ponds in Delaware. I will research each one to try to locate one that is a good pond from the bank. Quote
mllrtm79 Posted January 25, 2020 Posted January 25, 2020 Sorry it took so long for you to get a response, not many of us from DE on here. Did you find bank fishing while you were visiting? Quote

Did you find bank fishing while you were visiting? I got permission to fish the ponds at a golf course before and after the players get to the hole by the pond. One pond is very big and beautiful; a second is full of turtles; and a third is small and in the open. So I fished the beautiful pond and caught nine, two being over 2.5 pounds while the others were dinks. But they were green so they count. Thanks for your input. I will continue to fish the golf course pond for as long as I can and bring my two grandkids with me when possible. Quote
YoTone Posted January 26, 2020 Posted January 26, 2020 noticed you posted wagamons pond. never fished there but a few years ago a kid broke the state record there. 1 Quote
mllrtm79 Posted February 5, 2020 Posted February 5, 2020 Most of the ponds are not very bank fishing friendly, Newton pond near greenwood is one of the better ones, or the pond at the forestry service headquarters at Redden near georgetown. The state parks (trap and killens) offer rental boats, and some bank fishing. Wagamons has produced the last 2 state records, I have seen a 7+ pulled from there and Concord in recent years in tournaments I have been in. Quote

KatchKing1242 Posted December 11, 2021 Posted December 11, 2021 Most ponds here hold good bass. However they can be rather difficult to bankfish. Try looking for smaller residential ponds on Google maps first. You'd be surprised what you might catch. Also, check out the ponds from the list. You may be able to bankfish em but very limited space to do so. 1 Quote
Super User Munkin Posted December 26, 2021 Super User Posted December 26, 2021 Don't know how I missed this? The best day I have ever had fishing for big bass was at Trap Pond. I was staying in Delaware for 2 weeks annual National Guard training. Hit Trap pond in the evening and I have never caught so many big bass. Biggest I caught on a Timber Tiger wake bait that went 6-4. Pike took that lure so I switched to a Horny toad. That evening I caught 11 fish over 5lbs on the toad, I didn't bother even counting all the fish under 5. All of the fish were caught from shore in July with most being caught right where the road meets the pond. It is also the only time I have had a fish break 20lb line. Allen Quote

Will look up Trap Pond when we travel to Dagsboro this summer. Appreciate the feed back. Happy New Year! Sam Quote

Biggest fish I caught in the park on the pier they have. Allen Quote

Allen I also looked at the Google map and I saw where the road intersects with the corner of the pond. The location is about 40-minutes from son's house in Dagsboro, so driving to the pond to fish should be easy. Thanks a million for the tip. Sincerely appreciate it. Sam Quote
