After I applied cork seal to my rod I noticed a light spot in the cork and noticed the seal didn’t bond to it. This was an area I sanded before I applied it and I have tried putting more in the area but it just won’t stick. Any ideas why this might be?

If it won't take the sealer it's probably already sealed, maybe just soaked in so hard to tell?

That’s what I thought but it’s very smooth lighter colored and does not have the shine the rest of the rod does. I sanded this area before the seal and I’m sure it has something to do with it. The seal just seems to wipe right off after application

If the sealer wipes off, hopefully everything else will as well, maybe that part of the cork came in contact with something during the manufacturing process and has an oil or something ingrained in it? Other than that I've got no idea.  Best of luck

Try cleaning with Mr.Clean Magic Eraser with a little water. Then reseal, just remember use a very light coat.

That looks like a seam. Probably glue is up to surface. I'm not endorsing sealing cork, or doing anything else to it. But to cosmetically address that, one could sand the immediate area with a coarser grain, then fill with something that acts as a primer, or a section of the cork could be replaced, or just fish the thing.

Is it a Megabass rod? Ive noticed the cork for some reason on orochi and destroyer will do that when U40 is applied.

Sanding didn’t cause that. A contaminant repelled the water based polymer that is U40. I’d lightly sand the whole thing then reapply. Make sure your hands and work area are clean as well as your brush.

Interesting... I use U40 all the time and haven't had that happen. My guess is that DVT is correct.

Washed hands and brush and lightly sanded and still won’t stick. The sandpaper is 320 so I’m curious if the surface is just too smooth? The pores in the cork are clogged? I don’t know. Really weird

About the size of a finger tip pad, my gues is someone got some clear epoxy on the cork and it soaked in.
