Mike Y Posted July 14, 2008 Posted July 14, 2008 I bought and fixed up an older 14' aluminum boat. When I bought the boat it did not come with a title or paperwork and the boat has NO markings on it. I can see one spot near the transom where a rectangular sticker was, but it's missing. I can not even see VIN or S/N's. Anyhow it's a 14', non-deep V boat with a single transom support in the middle. What is the general thought for weight requirements and max HP? The casting deck and wood floor I added, must have added about 75-100lbs making the boat weight about 200lb My fishing buddy is a good 300lbs and I am 170lbs for a total of 670lb and that's without motor, the trolling motor, battery and gear. If I had to guess she would weigh about 900-1000lbs. I think I'm pushing it but don't plan to take it anything other than samller lakes. Just curious on your thoughts on max weight and HP. Thanks! btcprince Posted July 14, 2008 Posted July 14, 2008 at about 1000lbs you are probably getting near the max for weight capacity. as far as motor goes for small lakes, up to a 9.9hp should do ok, but depends on what you want Quote
George Welcome Posted July 14, 2008 Posted July 14, 2008 With just you, your buddy, and what you have added you are beyond max passenger load. Most 14' boats will max at about 795 total weight if it is a very stable boat. Most 14' V's are not all that stable. You might want to put her in the water and see just how stable she is. Most 14' V's are rated for up to 25 HP, but total weight which includes everything will call for something less. Quote
Super User Raul Posted July 15, 2008 Super User Posted July 15, 2008 Max HP is 25. Smaller lakes ? how small ? cuz let me tell you, La Sauceda not far from home is a small lake and it can get quite scary when the wind blows hard. Quote

The Next KVD Posted July 17, 2008 Posted July 17, 2008 I don't know about weight but i can tell you that the 14ft Lund that I had that wasn't a deep v had a max of 35hp Quote
