Shimano_1 Posted August 18, 2019 Posted August 18, 2019 My dad always loved to bass fish. I thought it was crazy that he could do it for hours on end and be so focused. I learned a lot just watching him. Never thought I'd be more into it than him lol. His buddy gave me an old daiwa baitcaster when I was 9 or 10 and I learned how to use it. My first memories of baits that actually worked were rc1 crankbaits, rebel jointed jerkbaits and pop r's. Fished out of an old 79 16 ft pro craft with an 85 Johnson that was beat to death. Fond memories for sure 1 Quote

r3825 Posted August 18, 2019 Posted August 18, 2019 I love all of these, great thread, I grew up on my grandpa's pontoon on a local lake, he was retired and grandma didn't work summers because she was a secretary at a school so I pretty much spent every day of every summer out with them. So many great memories, wish he was still agile enough to go and grandma was still alive to complain about how long we were gone. 2 Quote
deadadrift89 Posted August 19, 2019 Posted August 19, 2019 I was blessed with a loving Grandfather that always took me fishing mostly crappie, catfish and bream since before I can remember. He rarely bass fished but when we deer hunted our relatives had cattle with several farm ponds stocked with bass and so began a life long obsession. My Grandfather always had Field&Stream and Outdoor Life magazines at his house along with watching all the old fishing shows with him. I still remember him setting up a trash can lid in backyard as a target and giving me my first Zebco 33 and showing me how to cast. I owe him everything for sure !! 2 Quote
Yumeya Posted August 19, 2019 Posted August 19, 2019 My dad got me into fishing at around 10 I think, we fished rivers the most at first targeting trout with panther martins, after a few years he purchased a boat for trolling, are gear was mostly ugly sticks and mitchell 300's. Now he uses a Fenwich HMG with a Daiwa capricorn spinning reel that he has had for maybe 14 years now. He is the best man I know. 1 Quote
Super User N Florida Mike Posted August 19, 2019 Super User Posted August 19, 2019 My dad started taking me when I was 4 . He liked pier or surf fishing , and that got me started. Oftentimes my whole family would go, which included Me and my brother, 2 aunts, an uncle, and mom and dad. Basically, these were to put food on the table. My dads philosophy of catch and release was catch it and release into the ice chest. We also bank fished a creek near the house for catfish. I started fresh water fishing in earnest when I was 14 at the lake down the road, catching bream and catfish. One day I saw a more streamlined fish swim by and realized it was a bass. Love at first sight!! Something drew me to bass then , and still does now. It wasn’t long after that I caught a 4 pound bass on a ...( wait for it ) DOUGHBALL , while fishing for cats. It got tangled up in a brush pile out from the bank. I immediately jumped in and grabbed it. Wish I could find the pic. The first bass I remember catching on a lure was on a red and white spoon. I think I caught one other fish on one. Then I discovered plastic worms ? Ever since then, bass fishing has been my favorite. I have done everything from offshore fishing to running a trot line for cats in remote lakes and everything in between and love bass fishing the best!!! 1 Quote
Troy85 Posted August 19, 2019 Posted August 19, 2019 I grew up inshore salt water fishing. From the time I was about 3-4 my dad started taking me, we went just about every single Saturday, Sun up to sundown. My younger brother got wise as to where we were going every saturday, so he started going at about 2-3 years old. From the time I was 3 till my late 20's I had probably been bass fishing maybe 10 times. My younger cousin lives in SC, as he got older he got into bass fishing. So I would go with him when we visited SC. On one of our trips I caught a 9lb bass. I was hooked after that. I only go salt water fishing a few times a year now, mostly when my cousin from SC is town, all of the other trips are spent bass fishing. My dad and brother followed suit on the bass fishing not long after I did. 1 Quote
