j bab Posted July 24, 2019 Posted July 24, 2019 I've never caught an 8, 9, or 10lb bass. I've caught a 7 and an 11, but the gaps remain 1 1 Quote

Same, except I haven't broke 5lbs. I fish mostly small lakes and ponds on my kayak. I catch plenty of 3-3.5lb'rs, so no complaints from me all things considered. I know there's bigger fish out there, I just need to figure them out. Curious if 5lb+ are common in this area or not. Quote
Super User WRB Posted July 24, 2019 Super User Posted July 24, 2019 I have never fished in Alaska, haven't caught bass over 20 lbs or a musky over 40 lbs. Fishing Alaska is still possible. Tom 3 Quote

I usually average one 5 a season. But there's guys especially some of the swinbaits guys that seem to find them fairly often. The gold pin fish every year is 9 or 10lbs so the state has some good fisheries it can just be tough to come across the bigger fish with regularity. Quote

Mike If going to MI area, Lake St Clair is it. Can get you both species. Running into muskies is not all that uncommon. But you'll need a guide. Lake St Clair is simply a big bowl, almost featureless, but the small "features" make all the difference. Not much on scenery since it's mostly simply one hell of a lot of water. But with a guide you should be able to get a good number of very big smb, and probably a walleye or two thrown in. 2 hours ago, Mike L said: I sure hope so! Mike I don't know exactly where to go. billmac Posted July 24, 2019 Posted July 24, 2019 Never caught a 5 lb bass. Never caught a legal sized muskie. Never caught fish using my electronics (just got it this spring). Never caught a catfish. Never caught a salmon. Never piloted a boat on the St. Lawrence River. These are all things that are do-able in my area. 1 Quote
bagofdonuts Posted July 24, 2019 Posted July 24, 2019 Tarpon on a fly. Had a follow once but couldn't get them to commit. 1 Quote

schplurg Posted July 24, 2019 Posted July 24, 2019 Haven't been bass fishing very long so I've got a whole career of "first times" to accomplish. I got my first 5 pounder a month ago. Other than that I'm just getting started! 1 Quote
813basstard Posted July 25, 2019 Posted July 25, 2019 Never caught a Tarpon, red snapper or amber jack..and I live 12 minutes from some of the best saltwater fishing on Earth. They seem to not be effected by a frog.. 1 Quote
ohboyitsrobby Posted July 25, 2019 Posted July 25, 2019 Never been redfishing. I really want to just haven't gotten the chance. Never caught a 5 lb spotted bass. I'm fairly confident they exist in Arkansas just never caught one. Never had a respectable finish in a tournament in January or February. And I've tried a lot. Quote

river-rat Posted July 25, 2019 Posted July 25, 2019 I'm retiring in December of this year and one of the top items on my bucket list is to hire a guide on a lake known for smallmouths (like Pickwick Lake) and finally catch one. I've been saving up for a few years to make it a week long trip. 2 Quote
Super User the reel ess Posted July 25, 2019 Super User Posted July 25, 2019 An 8 pounder. I know people who have fished a lot less than I have who have caught bigger bass. Quote
