Moisture underneath my boat cover.

Hello,

Here lately in Central, Va the humidity has been terrible. I have noticed sometimes there is some moisture underneath my boat cover. I have seen different products (dehumidifiers) out there like this one...

Anyone else here use a dehumidifier and what do you recommend?

Someone told me simply get yourself a 25watt lightbulb and a cheap lamp and place it on the deck of your boat under the cover and just leave it on. It's supposed to create enough air current to help eliminate this problem. I've never tried it.

Check your compartments, too.

Seems the humidity will get into your compartments and soak your equipment.

I just take the cover off the boat, open all compartments and let her air out.  I will do this today since we have had a lot of rain during the past few days.

I have never heard of anyone using any type of a dehumidifier or even a light bulb to control the humidity but they both may be worth trying.

I would be concerned with the light bulb burning a hole in the carpet or cover.

With my schedule getting easier mabye we can go out on your new boat later this month.

I noticed on my cover at the back near the engine it was dirty on the underside,could be mildew,tried washing it off with water but no go,thought it might just be dust blowing under the cover in storms or high winds.Also have to break our cat from crawling under the cover could be him causing my dirt problem...

I would think a regular dehumidifier from lowes or some place would work well. I have one in my basement that self empties through a hose I leave in the sink.

Before you spend $50 that the bait monkey could get try a house hold fan under the cover. Be sure to open up your compartments and that there is good cross ventilation. I tow the boat without a cover and get the boat poured on occasionally. I have used this method with great results not only to generally dry it out but I no longer have mildew problems either.
