Baitcasting reels

I’m looking for a new baitcasting reel that will go on a 7’ mh fast action rod, the setup will be an all purpose probably the only rod if I’d have to only take one. The reels that I was thinking are the lew’s custom speed spool, Daiwa tatula sv tw, and the Shimano Curado k if you have any experience with the reels, what are the pros and cons? What would each reel be good for? And which reel would you think is the best?

I only have experience with the Daiwa, and it has performed superbly since I've had it, about two years now.  Silent on the cast, takes very little adjustment, smooth and quiet on the retrieve, drag seems very smooth.

 

I have found no cons.  

 

I have a couple recent Daiwa spin reels and they are exceptional too.

Stick with daiwa and Shimano. If you intend to throw lighter baits the Daiwa will be better. If you know you won’t go under 3/8 oz then the Curado will be best.

How is the distance with the Daiwa is it substantial less or not ?

Casts fine, I don't recognize an advantage or disadvantage compared to other reels.  But they are not all set up the same either.  Certainly not substantially less than any other setup.

I have a handful of Curados and Tatulas. You really can't go wrong with either. Both are great. Get a Curado K or Tatula CT in 6.2/6.3 gear ratio and you'll be set for all around setup.

Everyone is gonna make you think if it's not shimano or daiwa its garbage.  I have a cple of the lews tournament pro lfs reels and they're fantastic for the 140 they can be had for. The curado k is a nice reel as well. The tatula sv didnt impress me like it apparently has a lot of people.  I'd go handle them all and see which feels better in your hand.

If I were in the market for a new BC, I'd take a long hard look at 

Daiwa's offerings. I have experience with the Lexa and really liked

it. Son 2 of 4 is using it now as his own. I use a Chronarch 50e, used

to have two, but downsized since I use spinning more than casting.

 

As suggested above, Diawa or Shimano. Not that others don't make

fine reels, but these two make some darn fine reels.

Both are great reels.  I have fished a Tatula SW TW and I own the Curado K and DC.  If I had to choose, I would go with the DC or the K.  I like the Tatula but I like the breaking systems on the K and especially the DC better.  The Curados are also slightly smoother but its really is a personal preference. Casting is best with the DC but the Tatula is slightly better than the K.  I don't think you could go wrong either way.

Do you fish the newer tournament pro or the older pro g ?

How much  better is the dc unit ? Is the dc unit worth the extra money or not?

I've got 2 of the newest ones and have one of the pro g. Both are fine reels. The newer ones feel a lil smoother and better built but time will tell. Fished some of the ones before the g for several years and all still worked like new when I sold them. Still regret it

Is it worth it?  I would say yes but it takes some getting use to.  It is somehow slightly smoother than the K.  I had heard of some people not having that great of luck with theirs but mine has been flawless.  I have paired it with a St. Croix Legend Glass 7' M Mod and it will cast just about any crankbait a country mile without backlashing.  I have been using it since the beginning of the year just about every weekend and it just keeps getting better. 

 

Also, I was able to pick mine up from DSG online for $199. 

 

I caught this one last weekend on this combo with a Megabass Deep X.

Helps to know that at the start.  Right or left hand?  Seek and ye shall find.  Try a Search.  Sometimes you have to wait for the deal you are looking for.  Example:  Walmart can have some very good deals, but you have to watch daily as the price fluctuates.  One day you might get an item at 10% off and the next week 40% off.  ebay prices vary as well.

Sportsmans outfitters has all 3 ratios for 139. Both of mine came from there. Have bought a bunch from them over the years

Sorry, I do not.  Tatula CT 103 SV I think it is.  But IMO, all Daiwa reels are very fine quality.  I'm not bad-mouthing others, but I have recent experience only with Shimano and Daiwa.

How does the Shimano preform with lures under 1/2 ounce?

I was in the exact same position as you. I went the with the Tatula and my dad got the K a few weeks later. They both perform great but the K doesn’t do as well with baits under 3/8 oz, it also doesn’t skip baits as well. The K outcasts the Tatula but not by much. After a year of pretty hard use with both the K is still smooth as the day I got it, whilst the Tatula isn’t nearly as smooth. If I had to buy one again I’d definitely go with the K.

Okay thanks that really helped I’m probably going to get both I just realized I need to either get a new reel or attempt to fix it
