I don't know how people stand to wear long sleeves and pants.

Me either . I suffocate in them . I use plenty of sun block sp50.

I've got Huk, Columbia, Under Armor and North Face stuff, it's all about the same to me. The key to staying cool is not letting the sun touch your skin, with the right materials it's like you're in the shade all the time. A wide brimmed Outdoor Research hat, a Buff, sun gloves and an occasional jump in the lake help. It's going to be hot regardless so you might as well protect your skin.

I HAVE to wear knee high anti-blood clot socks so parts of my legs are covered if I want them to be or not.  So I wear shorts.  I have sun burned my knees significantly a few times over the years, so I spare the bare areas between my knees and where the shorts stop with sun screen.  I have a few sun screen shirts to cover my arms &. back.  Wear a wide brim had and sunscreen neck & ears.  One of my anti-sun shirts has a hood on it and I'm finding I use the hood much more often than not.  Cooler weather, I'm not a big fan of long pants when I'm fishing.   I find that they restrict my movement somewhat and since I'm more or less naturally clumsy I don't need restricted movement.  So I'm a big fan of long underwear & shorts.  The long underwear leaves much less fabric flopping around my feet so it doesn't catch on stuff nearly as often.  If I have to put the rain gear on, it is just a matter of just be careful all the time.

Usually a cheap pair of zip off pants.  I unzip the legs about half way so my legs can breath, but my calves are still protected from the sun.

During the summer, I wear nothing but the lightweight, quick dry, nylon pants. They are sold by many companies. NEVER anything cotton or denim. Once those get wet, they stay damp. The nylon pants get rid of sweat quickly. Even if you get a quick rain, or do a short wade, the pants will dry quickly. Very comfortable. Most have zip off legs that convert to shorts if you want.

+1  I've worn shorts while fishing one day in the past several years....and got a surprise April sunburn to remind me what a mistake that was

I cannot stand long pants when outside so when I need the sun protection in my yak I resort to tights/leggings under my shorts.  The lightweight ones are amazingly cool despite being black, which seems to be the only color men's baselayer tights come in.  One advantage of the dark color is that they dry in the sun incredibly quickly, if I wade into to my knees to launch the tops of my legs will be dry in like 30m and the undersides in maybe 60m.

Anything like this.  I have a few different ones, I buy them when they are on sale in the spring and just look for the thinnest but still opaque ones I can find.  The tighter they are the faster they dry but I have not like the actual compression ones I tried.

Magellan zip off pants are great. Lightweight and water resistant. Also don't break the bank.

I agree and I have several pair.  I like their shorts also made of the same material for just wearing around during hot summers.

Check out golf pants. Very light weight. Usually not cheap, but they last for years. Me, only wear shorts 12 months out of the year.

I sweat through my pants and boots from 8-5 at work so I wear shorts and flip flops to fish from 5-9. Sunscreen never bothered me. When it gets to mid September the evening mosquitos are too bad for shorts so I leave my work pants on which are hand me down BDU from my game warden buddies pictured here (shameless excuse to show off big rockfish picture)
