A train station is where a train stops.

A bus station is where a bus stops.

3 guys rent a motel room for $21, each pays $7

There was a problem with the room so the manager gives the maid $5 to give back to the 3 guys.

Maid figures five dollars is going to be hard for them split, so she pockets $2 and gives them back $3

Since each got back a dollar, that made them only pay $6 each for the room.

Well, 3 x $6 = $18 they paid for the room, and the maid pocketed $2.  $18 + $2 = $20, where did the other dollar go.

They paid $7 each for $21

Each go back $1 so that made the pay $6 each for $18

The maid pocketed $2 so that's only $20

The mathematical layout of this joke/riddle is meant to mislead.  No dollar is ever missing.

21 - 5 = 16 paid for the room.  The maid has 2 dollars and each guy received a dollar back, so 16 paid, plus 2 the maid took, plus one dollar for each of the three guys to receive in return equals $21.  (16 + 2 + 3 = 21)

The room cost $16 dollars (see above) so the men paid 5.33 each for the room (16 divided by 3). The men also paid the 2 dollars that the maid took, so dividing the 2 dollars among 3 guys is .67  cents each added to what they paid, or 6 dollars each ($18).  Then each received a dollar back for a total of 3 dollars received back.  $18 + 3$ is $21 which accounts for all of the money.

Now I’ll be able to sleep tonight.

I’ve often wondered how much wood a wood chuck could chuck if he could chuck it .?

If a guy walks in to get a room for the night and gives the owner 100.00 and asked to look at the room before he decides to take it.  Then the inn keeper takes the 100.00 and walks across the street to the bar and pays his 100.00 tab....The the bartender pays his hooked the 100.00 that he owns her.....then she walks across the street to pay the inn keeper for what she owes for the previous night......then the original guy returns and decides not to take the room and gets his money back.  How did all the debt get canceled and no body lost $$$$'
