dvshocktube Posted July 16, 2019 Posted July 16, 2019 i just bought a 96 ranger r70 and i got new fist/depth finders for bow and transom, there is an accessory switch on the bow that dosnt seem to turn anything on. my question is can i wire the fish finder to that instead of going all the way back to the battery thanks Quote
Super User Fishes in trees Posted July 16, 2019 Super User Posted July 16, 2019 I'm not an electronics expert, but my guess would be call Ranger and ask what that switch does. Is there a Ranger dealer anywhere near you? The guys I know who have Rangers speak highly of Ranger customer support. Quote
Rip_lipz Posted July 17, 2019 Posted July 17, 2019 I would not wire to a switch, those accessories switches should have a terminal board they get power from. On the terminal board there is usually empty spots. If you need help message me, I have done a lot of re-wiring on my 98 ranger. Quote
Super User iabass8 Posted July 19, 2019 Super User Posted July 19, 2019 Don't wire your electronics to your accessory switch and don't use the house power on your boat. Run dedicated 10-12g wire for each unit directly to the battery and fuse the hot wire on each connection or run them through their own fuse block i.e blueseas. Always do this /w your electronics. 1 1 Quote
Super User WRB Posted July 19, 2019 Super User Posted July 19, 2019 The switch could be for your bow running lights. Have you tested the circuit to see if it's powered? Running clean dedicated wire is a good idea and you can switch it on/off. Dedicated circuit isn't necessary for simple flasher/sonar units if it's clean power. Tom Quote
Dirtyeggroll Posted July 19, 2019 Posted July 19, 2019 Just run the new power. On the R70 the easiest way run the wire it is to remove the seat which is only two screws. Quote
