Best multispecies fisherman?

Who would you say is the best multispecies fisherman?  My vote goes to Al Lindner.

I don't know if he's the best but I really like Jason Mitchell.  Great guy also.  I would agree that Al Lindner would probably be 1 or 2.

Oh, man, this can be a really wild list. I'll throw out names like Lefty Kreh and Bob Clouser. They're both primarily fly guys, but they've both invented patterns that have caught virtually everything in fresh and saltwater and have some amazing stories in their books, interviews, etc.

jerry mckinnis, Al Linder and Lefty all come to mind for me.

I agree with a lot of the names...Al Lindner, for sure, gets listed at or near the top. I also like Jason Mitchell. Jerry McKinnis was always multi-species. Of course, you know I have to throw in Buck Perry as most don't realize he did saltwater as well as freshwater, including the Great Lakes. Here's a pic from the 1960 World Series of Sport Fishing competition he was involved in that put competitors on both fresh and saltwater environments. I believe those are redfish and snook he's holding from one of the saltwater competiton days. Check out some of the listed competitors on the scoreboard behind him. I believe he was paired with professional golfer Sam Snead during the bass competition day on Lake Okeechobee in that event.

I would say the best multi species fisherman is a person who has caught the most species of fish and has them documented. Some multi species fishermen have caught +500 species of fish in their lifetime since they travel the world for fishing.

Out of BassResource members, I'd say @Tim Kelly or @Bluebasser86 qualify as some of the best.  I bet their list of spp. is pretty long.

Forgot to mention earlier that I have caught over 200 species of fish (freshwater and saltwater) and have them documented in pictures. It helps that I live in Florida which is a paradise for a multi species fisherman. I am a young man so I got several decades ahead to add more species of fish to my list. I know of a man who has caught over 600 species of fish so I would say he or any other person that beats him is the best multi species fisherman at this point.

The list of guys mentioned already is very good. I would add Larry Dahlberg to the list. It's always fun comparing some of your own species PB's with the guys on the list.

I guess I should clarify a little.  I honestly wasn't thinking of saltwater, but that's fine.  I'm thinking of the guy (or girl) who, if you drop them on a body of water and tell them what species to fish for, is most likely to be successful day in and day out, regardless of condition or type of water.  I'm still sticking with Al.  I think he's done more to educate people about fishing as a science than anyone else.

A good multi species fisherman is as comfortable fishing freshwater as he is comfortable fishing saltwater. Only fishing freshwater is very limited and more limited if the person only fishes for less than 100 species of fish. With that said anyone can catch +100 species of fish if they put in the time needed just like any other type of fishing. I did some more research and learned of a man that has caught 1479 species of fish as of May 2016. He might of caught more species since then so I see him as the best multi species fisherman at this point of time.

I take your point, but I don't see the total species as a good rubric, or at least not the best rubric.  I know that I have caught a number of fish species, fresh and saltwater, that I can hardly be called proficient in.
