chubaka Posted July 9, 2019 Posted July 9, 2019 Just saw it on Tackletour Instagram. Wow! Thoughts!? Quote
Junger Posted July 9, 2019 Posted July 9, 2019 It'll be interesting to see if there is a niche market for DC reels at $189 MSRP. Quote
newyorktoiowa57 Posted July 9, 2019 Posted July 9, 2019 The XT is coming out as well. I wonder if they have done away with the citica. Unfortunately we probably won’t be able to get the SLXDC this summer. Quote
Super User FishTank Posted July 10, 2019 Super User Posted July 10, 2019 I like the SLX but at $189 it's a stretch. I have the Curado DC and I picked it up for $199. The DC option is really cool but I think in the SLX it should be around $150. It's not worth almost double the price and you can pick up the regular Curado for less. Quote

I would rather just spend a little more to get another curado K then an older citica, personally. 1 hour ago, FishTank said: I like the SLX but at $189 it's a stretch. Some guys may want DC casting performance in a compact package. Both curados are quite wide, especially the DC. Quote
Super User jbsoonerfan Posted July 10, 2019 Super User Posted July 10, 2019 It's still blue writing, I'm out. Keep it simple, gray, silver, gunmetal, gold, charcoal, etc. Don't put big bold letters on the side plate in primary colors. Sorry, OCD rant over. 1 Quote

bwjay Posted July 11, 2019 Posted July 11, 2019 I was hoping they would bring the SLX MGL instead of the XT or DC. It would compete with the Curado 70 unfortunately but it looks better than all 3 previous SLX models and should throw light baits better than all 3 with the MGL spool while still having plenty of power. The SLX was my first baitcasting reel and I'm actually more impressed with it after using my Bantam than I was when I first got it (was still impressed though). I enjoy using it for flipping and throwing light baits so I can only imagine the MGL being better. I have zero interest in the DC due to that obnoxious whine so I was disappointed to see they brought it over. 1 Quote
gilkeybr Posted July 11, 2019 Posted July 11, 2019 Got a sneak preview of the internals of Shimano's new entry level DC reel. Should really appeal to the masses 1 Quote

Junger Posted July 11, 2019 Posted July 11, 2019 Just FYI, the DC form factor is probably not the same as the non-DC version. Side by side, the Curado DC is a bit wider than the Curado K to fit in the DC mechanism. Quote

bunz559 Posted July 11, 2019 Posted July 11, 2019 I'm more interested in the XT than the DC. Love my SLX, would like to love the SLX XT as well. But it is nice that they're offering a budget friendly DC now. The tech has been around for a long time, it's about time they start trickling it down to more affordable reels. The Curado K DC doesn't count in my books cause at full retail, they're still almost $300. Quote
ckherring92 Posted July 12, 2019 Posted July 12, 2019 Ill say I was pretty excited to see the SLX DC release. Short story is that I got my hands on the SLX and loved it for a few weeks until I lost it when I flipped my kayak, ended up replacing it with a Curado DC. I loved the feel/size of the SLX, honestly much more then then the Curado DC. Now that there is a chance to potentially get close to Curado DC performance out of a SLX frame, my interest is definitely peaked. I suppose I will keep my fingers crossed that TackleAdvisor or the ReelTest will do a side by side comparison before I drop money in the name of science haha. Quote
Junger Posted July 13, 2019 Posted July 13, 2019 In stock right now at American Legacy Fishing at the moment, TW has a note of in stock Nov 21! Quote

I think with all the fancy upgrades and gimmicks in reel technology in the last 10 years the MGL spool is probably the biggest breakthrough. I'm a cheap old guy and used my round reels for probably too long until I picked up a friends Chronarch MGL. Fast forward 3 years and I have 2 of them and 2 Met's. If they ever come out with a Curado 70 MGL I'll dust off my wallet and grab a few. Since the Curado DC is being discussed, anyone else more impressed with how solid it reels over how it casts? I've realized there is almost no distance gained vs. my MGL's but darn it if it isn't one of the most solid and smooth feeling reels I've ever used. Lastly a dumb question. What is the difference between the SLX and the SLX XT? Quote

What is the difference between the SLX and the SLX XT? The SLX XT has a anodized aluminum frame I think, or exterior anyway, and it has adjustable external SVS Infinity brakes. IIRC, that's it. For $30 more than the standard SLX I can't see a reason not to get one if you were gonna get an SLX, unless the SLX was already a stretch for your budget. 1 Quote

Do you prefer the SLX over the K, period? I have been contemplating a Curado DC but the reel is just so wide, and width is something that does bother me about the K, which has a slimmer profile then the DC. Quote
