Don't know how the heck it happened, but the XHS 9 HDSI 180 T - Transom Transducer for Helix 10 SI GPS at the console is cracked.

2D sonar stopped working and during the 'trouble shooting' phased - Found the damage.

Pretty sure there's water intrusion going on.

Looks like I'll need to order & install a new one.

OR

Seriously considering taking this opportunity to upgrade the whole console unit to the newest HELIX 10 CHIRP MEGA SI+ GPS G3N.

Gotta tear into it anyway - might as well end up with the new one when it's all said and done.

More to follow . . .

Careful, that could be a dangerous spiral your entering. Start with the console unit, next thing you know your looking at a new one for the bow, and you might as well get the new mega 360 as well, then there’s the matter if the “old” trolling motor ?

Maybe let it dry and seal with epoxy?  That way you don't have to buy all the brand new G3 units ?

Okay, I let me get out of here before you throw something!

Yea - I had mentioned in a previous post that I wasn't going to replace these units anything soon - wrong.

By the time I get through tearing everything apart and replacing the transducer OR if that isn't the problem - removing the (In dash Mounted) unit - to repair 3 year old technology, might as well up grade the whole deal.

Not missing much in the way of 'good fishing' - but I'll need to be back on the water come the first week of August - that's magic topwater time for me.

I’m no PETA supporter but I feel bad for those poor fish now. They don’t stand a chance. ?

I hear that ~

And don't think I wasn't more than just pondering those ideas my darn self.

But the funds do not support it.

Forgive my for asking, but how many times did you "accidently hit it" before it cracked??

Do you plan on sending the cracked TD to Hummingbird to analyze why it cracked?

Good luck with the new toys!

Dropped my rig off for the G3N install today.

Hate the 'void' left behind in my garage.

I’m surprised a guy like yourself doesn’t want to do all his own electronics installations. I actually enjoy doing it myself, and I also know exactly where every wire, connection and screw is. That way if something needs to be addressed later on ( ie broken transducer), it’s super easy to fix it.

I hear ya - and thanks for the vote of confidence.

I'm extremely fortunate in that service center at Lund/Mercury/Humminbird/ Minn Kota dealer I use is seriously high speed and does really nice work: clearly not free though. The service manager specifically.

Expect for the original Optimax, (factory) 'Steve' did the total initial install & rigging of all my gear (Electronics, Fortrex, Talons, external GPS, all 4 batteries and the on board charger) right there and is very familiar with my rig - it's the Only one they've sold - not a surprise.

He also did my repower & jack plate install last fall.   He's proud of his work and it shows.

Either way, between the Ethernet boxes & connecting cables and whatever else may be associated with networking the units & the 360 imaging, plus the flush mount in-dash install, I'm good dropping it off and letting him work his magic.

Can't wait to check it out.

Maple Bay has only sold one Pro V Bass? That’s surprising. I’ve seen trucks down here with Maple Bay stickers so it appears guys from all over go to their boats at Maple Bay.

I did see a Pro V Bass with a big green Lund on the side of it heading your way up 127 a couple weeks back, was a pretty sweet looking rig. I think it might of been the guys from the Next Bite.

Edit: not the next bite guys. Who’s the father son team from Michigan?

Agreed ~

Between YT & FB I get several inquires a week from all over the country regarding the rig & where I got it.

Have referred several guys (local) to Maple Bay - guess few if any follow through.

Since I purchased my boat, I have done all of the maintenance and installs. I installed my first wave of fish finders on the bow and consult when I initially bought the boat. Then a few months ago after all in the boat for a less than a year, I reinstall all fish finder gear on the front and about with new gear that can do live scope. It's all networked. I moved my batteries around, added another battery, and added a new trolling motor. Identity Mercury vessel view, a new aerator, and a resessed trolling motor tray. On top of that I did my own yearly maintenance on my engine and boat detailing.

That's not all I've done, but what I'm getting to is that all of that work cost a lot of my time, a lot of lost sleep, a lot of complaints from my frustrated wife that the boat was taking up the driveway space for a week, back and forth trips to the hardware store, electronic store, and boat store...  And just overall scope creep where what I originally thought I would do I upgrade it or change my mind throughout the process which added more time.

I am all about DIY and saving money... But there is a price that I paid in time and frustration dad I don't blame AJ for having a guy do it. He drops his boat off and he gets it back. He doesn't have to know where every wire is because if something is truly wrong he takes it back to the guy who has a lot of pride in his work. I have a lot of pride in my work and I do my work myself... AJ's guy has a lot of pride in his work and I am sure that if he just brought it back with the issue, he would be right on it to make it right.

I've read your posts & have seen several pics of your rig and the modifications you've made.

Very Nice.

While you're admittedly all about DIY - I purchased my rig set up the way I wanted it.  Clearly that comes with a cost.

However once I took delivery, I was fishing & catching fish - frequently.  Which is why I got it in the first place -

During the, going on 3 years of ownership, I have made several small modifications all of which improved my user experience.  Last fall I re-powered this rig and this lasted Helix 'upgrade' was born more out of need than desire; as the replaced unit had stopped operating properly.

Good Luck with your rig as well as all current & any future modification.

I had some major issues with my livescope gls10.  I was in contact with garmin for months... They replaced the unit and I am happy now.  I hope your issue gets resolved.  There is nothing more frustrating than going fishing, but focusing more on the stuff that is NOT working.  Been there a few times.  Fishing equipment woes are the worst!
