Corrosion protection for reels

Hi, quick question for the group. I recently bought some CRC 6-56 as a corrosion preventer bc I read it was ok to use it on fishing reels. I have been occasionly doing some inshore fishing and using my shimano reels. I have always rinsed my reels off in cool water after seeing salt. I was going to use CRC on my reels but then realized that I'm not sure what they are made of? Are the chronarch and curado bodies made of plastic? Is it safe to use a corrosion preventer on reels that aren't metal? Thank yall so much!

WD-40 is a water displacement solvent ideally suited to use after rinsing your reels in warm fresh water to reduce corrosion products. CRC 6-56 is a marine lubricant and may not clean off the dissolved salt water. I would use the lubricant after cleaning with water and WD-40.

Just an fyi - but I know a number of pros that are placing their Plano Rustrictor boxes in with their rods/reels storage compartments in their boats.  It actually helps protect them, in addition to protecting your lures.

I fished a ton of salt with my old Shimano reels, both baitcast and spinning. I rinsed them thoroughly as soon as I got off the water. Once a week I cleaned them with a product called reel scrubber, comes in a aerosol can. I had the factory bearings, but upgraded drag washers. Outside of tearing them down for a complete clean and lube once every 3 months or so, I never had a problem with any of my reels. Maintenance is the key.
