Hello BR,

I just came back from Boy Scout summer camp which I was in for a week and I got a couple chances to go fishing and caught a 3.4lb LMB bass and a 4.5lb LMB bass which was my PB LMB this year!

I just got back from fishing for 3 hours at The Nashua River and was wondering if anyone knows what fish couple be blowing up like crazy on the surface. I'm pretty sure they are pickerel but, to my next question is if anyone knows a good carp rig and bait for carp in the river?

Thanks,

Martin S

If these blow ups are in the lilly pads/grass beds on the Nashua they are most likely Large Mouth Bass. I fish the river frequently and the only other species that sort of breaks the surface yellow perch. And there is a very distinct difference.

Can't help you with the carp rig.

I don't think there are any carp in the Nashua, at least not in that stretch. I haven't heard about or seen anyone catching them. If you want to fish for carp in the area the Merrimack river in Southern NH or in Lowell is a better bet. Although... Horseshoe Pond in Merrimack actually has a lot of carp in it. I guess it used to be an oxbow of the Merrimack. I accidentally caught one while bass fishing a couple years ago and I have seen them cruising by/near the boat a bunch of times while fishing there.

I forgot this from my last post, were they blowing up along what seems like the center line of the river? If so I think you were seeing Perch like LadiMopar was saying. I hear them going crazy all the time behind me when I'm frogging around dusk.

if your targeting carp, hit the river in lowell, use niblets corn thread on your hook. Throw it out and let it sit, you'll get something for sure.
