Marc Tyler Posted July 7, 2019 Posted July 7, 2019 For the past year I have been fishing almost exclusively soft baits and jigs with trailers. The only times I have thrown hard treble hooked baits is for topwaters. Between my jigs with trailers and various ways to rig creature/ worms and soft swimbaits (keitechs) I have not needed lipless or any other hard bodied baits. What do you guys mostly stick with? 2 Quote
The Bassman Posted July 7, 2019 Posted July 7, 2019 The ponds I fish dictate what I use. Things are scummy now so plastics get a lot of play. For clean water I enjoy reaction baits like lipless. Wind also plays a role in my choices. Less wind, more worms and such. They all have their moments. 1 Quote
Kyle S Posted July 7, 2019 Posted July 7, 2019 Lots and lots of jigs have been tied on lately, with plenty of soft plastics as well. Also, I often times find myself throwing a spinnerbait and chatter bait as well. Hard baits still have their place, just a rare place with me. Something about the 'thump' that occurs when a bass sucks in my jig...it's hard to put it away, even when something else could be more effective. Quote
Global Moderator Mike L Posted July 7, 2019 Global Moderator Posted July 7, 2019 Depends on the water and conditions what I use the most. Most times I'll start with plastic, but sometimes If they're not hitting plastics I'll throw what I need to throw. Mike Quote
Black Hawk Basser Posted July 7, 2019 Posted July 7, 2019 I'd say you're in the majority camp, especially for this time of year. I use jigs and plastics ~75% of the time. Early in the year I may be more inclined to throw a crank, before the weeds get thick. I try to throw spinnerbaits and chatter baits all summer, where I can get away with it. I'm a fan of fishing with moving baits, so that is my first choice if the waters allow. Quote
Super User scaleface Posted July 7, 2019 Super User Posted July 7, 2019 Not me . I throw spinnerbaits in spinnerbait conditions , crankbaits in....Soft plastics are a big part of my arsenal but so are other categories . 2 Quote
JediAmoeba Posted July 7, 2019 Posted July 7, 2019 Last choice is always finesse baits and plastics. Even when I need to throw plastics I try and get away with larger ones on baitcasters. Moving baits are way more entertaining and fun. 1 Quote
Super User WRB Posted July 7, 2019 Super User Posted July 7, 2019 I use both jigs and worms a lot but not exclusively because my goal is to catch bass on whatever they will strike. Tom 2 Quote
Super User Koz Posted July 7, 2019 Super User Posted July 7, 2019 Exclusively? No. I don’t want to limit myself when experience dictates I should be using a different type of bait. 3 Quote
greentrout Posted July 8, 2019 Posted July 8, 2019 i mostly fish two state lakes open to the public ... heavily fished and pressured ... best results by far ... plastics ... zoom trick worms ... good fishing ... 1 Quote

I live and fish I arizona and the fish are either suspended deep or in deep cover. The plastics produce and the crankbaits dont in my experience. I just use what produces. Quote
FishingGeekTX Posted July 8, 2019 Posted July 8, 2019 No. I caught probably 70% of my fish this year on topwater. Frogs, buzzbaits, and my PB on a yozuri pencil (spook). So much fun that topwater. Didn't do much cranking this year, had a little lipless action one day but other than that, hasn't been a good option. Bladed jig has taken a few both swimming and jigged...a nice 6lbs jigged last week. Texas rig produced in some lakes, and in some cases I lost 1 plastic per fish...seems so wasteful. Jigs, I rarely lost this year but many did get hung and had to be worked out. Quote
Fried Lemons Posted July 8, 2019 Posted July 8, 2019 I like the drawing power of hard baits. I usually toss them first looking for the aggressive biters whenever conditions seem favorable. 1 1 Quote
Super User Catt Posted July 8, 2019 Super User Posted July 8, 2019 Exclusively Why certainly! I aint thrown a "hard" lure since March ? 3 Quote
Super User Mobasser Posted July 8, 2019 Super User Posted July 8, 2019 I throw plastic worms probably 80% of the time. The rest spinnerbait or topwater Quote
BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted July 8, 2019 BassResource.com Administrator Posted July 8, 2019 I used to consider myself a spinnerbait/power fisherman. And for good reason - I caught a lot of fish doing it. It took me a long time to get away from the "favorite" lure/technique syndrome. Once I did, it opened my mind to finding the fish, and learning more about what they wanted to bite that day; vs. trying to feed them what I wanted to throw (and where). Now I catch even more fish. I don't recall the last time I got skunked since I made the transition. Had some tough days, to be sure. But at least I can catch a few each time I go out, even on the toughest days. 2 Quote
Super User jbsoonerfan Posted July 8, 2019 Super User Posted July 8, 2019 Exclusively, like as in all the time? Why would I? 1 Quote
Todd2 Posted July 8, 2019 Posted July 8, 2019 Not exclusively, but by far I throw soft plastics in some form the majority of the time. Quote
Super User fishwizzard Posted July 8, 2019 Super User Posted July 8, 2019 Maybe 90% of the time? I enjoy fishing hardbaits at times but a weightless plastic or a jig is most always what I start with and usually what I stick with. Quote
Justin Roberts Posted July 8, 2019 Posted July 8, 2019 This year I have. I'm a slow technique learner, meaning that I only use one technique to get it down before I try other techniques. I recently stocked up on plastics Quote
Steveo-1969 Posted July 9, 2019 Posted July 9, 2019 I fish soft plastics and jigs exclusively because I'm allergic to treble hooks. Don't laugh, I can produce a doctor's note upon request! 1 Quote
