He seems very down to earth, one of my favorites to watch as well. I used to watch Flukemaster more, but lately he's gotten more into Kayak fishing so I've kinda lost interest. Nothing wrong with Kayak fishing, its just not my preference. As far as the googan squad, I never watched them. I tried to watch a couple videos, but it just wasn't my style.
Justin Roberts Posted July 8, 2019 Posted July 8, 2019 You have to admit the production quality of their vids has gotten better over the years. They are annoying, but that's what is demanded from them these days. I've lost interest, as many others have stated, due to the capitalist direction they've taken. But if not them, then some other select group of bro-dudes would be doing it. Even their name is annoying as f***. I will say the hunting trip that LFG made to New Zealand was of great quality.

Drew03cmc Posted July 8, 2019 Posted July 8, 2019 My son, a 12 year old avid angler, told me about Jon B and the Googan Squad. I watched a video with him and laughed. He asked what was funny, so I told him. I told him my opinion. They're seemingly a bunch of punks who are shilling overpriced rods and baits. I turned him onto Drew Gregory (yak angler here), Chad Hoover (his shilling has gotten almost intolerable), Bass Resource, Keepin It Real and a few others. The kid loves fishing, has read Murphy and Sowbelly. He reads the magazines, anything he can get his hands on. 1
813basstard Posted July 8, 2019 Posted July 8, 2019 Ehh, the videos are whatever. I respect the fact they found a way to monetize what they enjoy. Sellouts? Nah, the dude going to a job he hates with people he can’t stand for far less coin for 30 years is a sell out. At least they’re chasing it. Privileged? Probably. Don’t really ‘get it’? Assuredly. But life is filled with folks who don’t and come out winning. and they’re winning. No question about it. We all have dice to roll. Theirs came up snake eyes.. Still won’t buy their baits tho.. 2

You guys are giving them a ton of publicity! ? +1 Saw all the chatter here about them a few months ago. I watched no more than 3 minutes of two different videos. Never saw a reason to watch any more. Never saw a reason to get upset about them, either. They may as well be making videos about basket making or something else I have no interest in watching. Unless someone here is talking about them, I'd not remember they exist. On 7/6/2019 at 7:26 AM, Harold Scoggins said: Speaking of "old," I use to watch Gene Jensen until a few years ago, he mentioned to a group that "forums were for old people" and that he didn't want to hang out on them because YT was what the younger folks wanted. I considered that a slap in the face directed towards people who still know how and enjoy reading. Don't take me wrong, I enjoy watching YT, but I dread the day when our youth beats feet across the lake to the likes of the Googans because they are "dope" and they leave the old man in the straw hat sitting alone in his john boat - thinking he has nothing to contribute. Even as a younger man in my twenties, I always made time for the "old salts" who first taught me how to fish. I don't begrudge Gene trying to forge his way into making a living at it...and if that meant he had to leave BR to do it, so be it. But, I agree...while I used to read most everything he posted and watched all his videos, I haven't seen but probably two or three since he left here. I have only watched a couple of his videos, but I have a good deal of respect so far.
Super User Sam Posted July 8, 2019 Super User Posted July 8, 2019 I went and viewed the Googan ICast video and it was interesting. What I am wondering is where they got the capital to start the company or did they go bare bones and contract all of the production to another entity in the USA? Baits seem to be along the lines of the Brush Hog and Rage Tail craws plus some Zoom baits. They also mentioned that their baits have scent in them. Not sure if I like that although I must admit I like the General by Berkley and its scent. I put MegaStrike on my baits so this may not be a negative for me. Will I try the new Googan baits? No, not this soon. I will let you guys fish them and then report back.

Eventually you throw in sponsors and people giving famous people business opportunities and you end up with things like Googan. 1
TriStateBassin106 Posted July 8, 2019 Posted July 8, 2019 Googan squad sucks. And this is coming from a young gun (22) Googan Baits are overpriced and have way too much oil, I'll stick with my rage craws and pit boss. Also heard they're making hard baits now, probably gonna be like 15 dollars for one little squarebill, screw that! 1

Not trying to argue, but the Googan Baits are only 50 cents more expensive than your Rage baits...I'm not a supporter of the squad either just saying that they are basically priced the same as the Rage Series.

Look at Megabass, Evergreen, etc. If the baits are quality, it's no big deal. I don't throw much in the way of crank baits anyway.

He also has a channel with his wife, OSG, that's entertaining as well. Just a good ol' American family channel.

I can not say for sure, but their individual subscriber bases would suggest they each make well into six digits annually including LunkersTV who probably has some of his videos demonetized. They likely had the capitol to start a company. 12 hours ago, Justin Roberts said: I will say the hunting trip that LFG made to New Zealand was of great quality. I am not much of a hunter, but I might have to check that out. Although I can’t claim to have seen many of their videos, I did get caught up in a series of videos by Jon B. where he hosted two anglers from England for two weeks. Listening to them compare the experiences of fishing between here and their home increased my appreciation for what I have and where I live.
Jd_Phillips_Fishin Posted July 9, 2019 Posted July 9, 2019 I have little tolerance for stupidity and that is what the Googans seem to thrive on. But hey, if that is what gets them more views, then good for them. Personally, I only watch TRF and Scott Martin. Mainly because they are tournament anglers and Scott's day in the life videos of a touring pro are right up my alley.

Dingers have rarely caught me a fish, but I can burn through a bag or three of Senkos in one day catching fish, and one of my top two LMB ever was caught on one. Nothing compares to a Senko regardless of what people try to tell themselves because of the price. And believe me, I believe in frugality or a variant thereof. Senkos are one of the baits that are worth the price tag. 1
