I usually fish alone, but I prefer to fish with my Son.

The both have their benefits. I almost always have someone with me, often my dad, who is retired and bored. It feels selfish to head out on a beautiful Minnesota lake with an empty back deck when I have a list as long as my arm of people who like to fish.

 

Interestingly, some of my best days have occurred while fishing alone, including nearly all of my rinky-dink club tournament wins. I think it's because I'm focused only on my own position and getting the best casting angles rather than trying to position us both for the casts.

I fish alone most of the time. Occasionally my wife goes with me but she doesn't like to be out on the water as long as I do. Usually make it a shorter trip when she is with me. I have fished with others and it was usually enjoyable. Now that we are all getting up in age most people I know can't go and the ones that can are at work through the week.

1 like fishing with someone as passionate as me

2 like taking novice and youngsters to relive and share early experiencees

3 Never miss an opportunity  to fish with family

4 really love being alone....and I usually have better results

I fish from a kayak so I am always fishing alone even when I am with other people.  Even then, I am used to doing it by myself so that is what I am used to.

Not all that long ago, I would have given a different answer to this question.

 

I rarely fish alone. I have a regular group of old friends i fish with. A few new friends have become part of the circle. We all travel to get together. The older I get, the more precious these trips become. For me, fishing is secondary to seeing old friends. Fishing is the excuse for the gathering. Catching some fish is the icing on the cake.

 

I am not as fanatic about fishing as I once was. It’s all about the get together, getting out on the water, relaxing and taking what the day gives me. If I miss a bite, lose a fish, or get skunked, it ain’t the end of the world. And, I really don’t like fishing with anybody who gets all bent out of shape by any of those things. Life is too short.

I always fish alone. In fact, to me one the best things about fishing is getting away from people. After working in the big city all week there’s nothing better than being alone in my boat, just me and the great outdoors.

During my working years I would take time off work to fish weekdays during pre spawn and fished alone most of the time unless I fished on weekends. It's a lot easier to fish alone when trophy bass fishing, it's long hour of boredom with a few minutes of overwhelming excitement and not for everyone.

Before retiring about 5 years ago I had 8 freinds that fished and we all had boats taking turns fishing together. My son also fished with me occasionally and night tournaments.

7 of the 8 anglers have passed away and the 8th angler is tournament team partnering and haven't contacting him in over a year.

My son is seriously ill with stage 4 renal cancer, living with us now, and I can only pray we will fish together someday agian.

I like company. I think it's more fun. Probably safer, too. And having a witness makes my big fish stories believable. Also, I like when someone's there to take a photo of me when I'm holding up a good one. And it's great to take a photo of my companion with a big fish they've caught, especially if it's a kid or novice, so they can relive the excitement.

Sorry to hear that Tom..thoughts your way.  When I was under 25 or so - I liked to fish with dad or with friends. Although I never fished tourneys, I watched them on tv., and unfortunately. none of my friends were into it as much as I was. From25 to 55 I preferred to fish by myself or with someone new to fishing. Now i'm back to wanting to fish with someone and usually do.

I prefer to fish with my better half, family, and close friends. If they are not able to join me then I prefer fishing alone.

I fish alone but prefer to have my kids with me.  They can't or don't want to spend hours out on the water so the wife and I have come up with a compromise that makes everyone happy.  I get to fish mornings from whenever I decide to get up and head out, then around lunchtime I give her a call and she meets me at the ramp with the kids.  She heads out for some free time and I take the kids out for a hour or two to catch some panfish.

I enjoy both also. I fish once a week with a friend that just wants to catch bass. When I go alone I'm slinging big swimbaits and that's definitely not a number producing technique.

I'll do it alone, with somebody, or in a crowd...I don't care!

 

With that said there's something about sharing special moments with close friends or family.

 

Some of y'all will remember Jack (fishfordollars) Yates, we fished together several times, texted or talked almost every day.

I am so sorry, Tom. As a doctor I can just about imagine what you, your son, and the rest of your family are going through. I hope for you and your family that your struggles are successful and that your prayers are answered.

I love sharing moments with people, and wish I could when catching  my 2 biggest bass. I had the best time of my life when me and my best friend fished for 31 straight days. I prefer fishing with fishermen when I do, taking kids out is a blast and helping young kids on the bank I always do. Giving baits and trying to teach tactics. I gotta say though, I LOVE being on the water by myself. Like most mentioned you get into a zone. No ones complaining about being bored. No ones trying to go to another spot(sometimes it pays off). You make all the decisions. Sometimes I like fishing with my girlfriend, sometimes I absolutely hate it. I hate when people complain about being hot. I’m never disappointed when I fish by myself even if I don’t catch anything. I guess that concludes my opinion on it. I will say though it is fun when you have a good time fishing with other people. Seeing my girl catch her pb. Seeing a kid loose their mind over a 3 pound bass. Yin and yang

I definitely prefer to fish alone, but there is a time and place for fishing alone or fishing with others.

It's always nice to fish with someone. Back when there were few kayaks on the lakes, it was nothing for a couple of kayakers to paddle up to each other and start chatting. Complete strangers, talking about the fishing, each other's kayaks, etc. Don't see that happening very often anymore. The last time I paddled up to a stranger to chat, he started screaming at me, accusing me of trying to take his spot. Now days I keep my distance and let them paddle to me...sad.
