spacer.pngspacer.pngHello,

I have a humminbird helix 5 mounted on the bow/ trolling motor transducer. I also have a Lowrance Elite Ti2, with the active imaging transducer mounted on the transom. I attached two pictures of the same area. The humminbird image is much clearer, easily able to see individual stramds of weed, while the Lowrance is very blurry not easy to read. Ive tried to adjust the setting to no avail on the Lowrance. Both units are set to the same frequency. Any suggestions?

Have you tried calibrating your Ti2 screen and also make sure the fishing mode is set to shallow water, that should help it.

Have you tried selling your Lowrance to buy another bird? ?

Sorry, couldn't help myself. Unfortunately I haven’t had a Lowrance unit in years so I don’t know how the settings are on them, but as an owner of several Helix units, I might be a little biased anyway.

This lol. I'm running garmin's but their down imaging isnt comparable to the new birds either. They're all great units but I do believe as a whole the birds have better imaging. I keep garmin's because they were cheaper, built in mapping,  mounting systems etc. I'd say uve got what uve got so it's either use it or upgrade it.

I am a Garmin user.  I tried them all and did a lot of testing before my recent big purchase...  I use livescope on bow with a cv52 transducer.  On the transom, I use a gt34 UHD and cv52, so I get readings as good as hummingbird mega images because my down is now at 820kHz and the side is 1120kHz....

With all that said, it's the resolution of my 93sv units that are the killer in my setup.  This is what I see with your images.  The resolution on the lowrance unit is lower than the hummingbird.  The lowrance unit is pulling the same returns of grass...

This is what gets me these days.  Everyone says get as big of a screen you can, but noone says get the highest resolution to match.  So like in my case with the echomap plus, I got the largest screens but the resolution is the same as the lower sized screens.  The images are just blown up or scaled up, but are not displayed in high resolution.

Higher resolution screen are what set hummingbird units apart and make them appear to cost more.  Like I said, you can get better results with a transducer upgrade on your Garmin units... But the resolution is what  ultimately determines how you see it...

What models are your lowrance and hummingbird units?

Humminbirds imaging is a lot better than Lowrance, especially in shallow water. I bought an Elite 7 TI a few months ago and wish I would have spent the extra money on a Humminbird or either bought another Garmin.

The Lowrance is the Elite ti2 7in bought a couple months ago, and the Humminbird is the Helix 5 DI GPS bought last year.

Also, speak8ig of the lowrance, has anybody had the problem where in shallow water, say 3ft or less, itll say im in 800ft and wont give any readings ( even in deeper water) until i turn the unit off and on again.

Yes. It happened to me once a few weeks ago. I was in about 2ft of water when it happened. I didn’t have to turn the unit off though. It straightened itself out once I got back into about 4ft of water.

Suggestion:  Ray Marine. ;)

I would check the Lowrance’s transducer and make sure it is level.

Contact Lowrance and send the techs your pictures, they should respond quickly.

Both TD's are mounted in the water, the Lowrance isn't shooting through the hull....right?

Correct, both in the water. Humminbird is on the bottom of my trolling motor, lowrance is on the outside of the transom.

I also tried adjusting the angle of the TD, which didnt do anything.

I will contact Lowrance with the pictures and see what they say. For 750 bucks, i expected a little better. Thanks for all the replies!
