Worms For The 2019 Season

So far this summer, I've been throwing 3 different plastic worms.Mr. Twister phenom, Zoom U Tail, and Culprit 7.5 inch. Most productive has been the Mr. Twister, followed by the Zoom U Tail. Also picked up some Zoom G tail worms, as I was trying to get close to the old Ditto Gatortail, and havnt caught a single bass on this one. It's day will come. As for colors, for us it's been any in the grape/ purple shades getting bit the most along with junebug. Bass around here seem to always go for these colors. What worms are you throwing so far this summer?

Cut R, Magnum Speed Worm and a 9" Manns Jelly Worm. 

 

Lately there hasn't been a need to throw anything else.

Zoom trick and finesse worms in green pumpkin magic and June bug. 6” Red Shad Senkos, only because I bought a tournament bag a few years back and I am trying to go through them. I noticed around here the bigger the bait, the smaller the fish. So I throw small stuff.

The Zoom Ultravibe is always a top producer.  This year I'm trying Berkley's The General and it's running a close second to the Ultravibe.  That horrid smell is a magnet for bass.

I've been trying to use up my supply of soft plastics  but it will never happen . I have accumulated  way to many .My top soft plastic worm has been a 6 inch Manns jelly worm in Tequila Sunrise .

Me, too.  But it is so difficult.  I will try to force a plastic that I have no confidence in, just because I feel the need to use it up.  In the meantime, I am rushing it or using it in a way not really ideal and giving up on it quickly.  Too often, my brain gets in my way....and not just fishing...lol

Me too. Most of these worms I've had for years. I gave my grandson a bunch, and I'm trying to use up my old stuff first. Don't know about Missouri bass and purple/grape worms, but these colors have been my favorite for a long time. I try others but keep coming back to grape/purple. Our bass like em, that's for sure.

Sticks : YUM Dinger, 5" and 6"

Curlies : YUM Ribbontail, 7.5", and Big Bite Baits Kriet Tail Worm in 10".

Straight : YUM Mighty Worm, 10.5"

Finesse : YUM Finesse Worm, 6.5"

 

A bit of a YUM fan boy and very brand loyal, but shoot, they give me baits for 3 bucks a pack and they catch fish.  I'm pretty excited about their new baits this year, so this is subject to change.

I haven't been able to fish much so far this year and used worms very little. I am in the same shape as @scaleface and @Choporoz. I have way too many soft plastics I try to use up. I don't have anybody to give them to and I don't feel good about giving something to someone I don't have a lot of confidence in.

I usually start out in spring with standard Zoom trick or finesse worms. Now it's getting hot, and curly or ribbon tail have a little more action and seem to draw more strikes. My fave lake is getting thick milfoil weeds now, so I may change back to a straight tail worm, which comes through the weeds a little better. Zoom or Mann's jelly worms have both worked good

The General has been phenomenal this year. My #1 producer and has worked everywhere. 

 

The Zoom Ultravibe is a close second for me. Matter of fact, I use the Ultravibe as a search bait in the summer because I work it so aggressively. Then, I’ll  drop a weightless tx-rigged or wacky General (depending on weed cover) when they reveal their haunts for that subtle follow up, if needed

Zman Finesse WormZ and Zoom Finesse worm; just depends on presentation. June bug for both. Don’t even bother carrying anything else most days on the water. No need...

Wow, this is so close to what I have done all year.  I have a buddy that is a tournament fisherman and he was looking at me like I was a freak when I told him how successful spawn and immediate post-spawn was for me when I was fishing a weightless Ultravibe in the thickest brambles I could find.  I had a great pattern going.  If the laydown was in the shade and had a bunch of tiny little branches that your line inevitably tangles around then I could pull a fish out of it with a weightless Ultravibe.  I would have to stand on the bow and jiggle it up and down and back and forth to get it to fall through the little sticks but I was literally calling the targets I would pull a fish out of.  It was a great couple of weeks.  Later when we got tons of rain with the water high and muddy it was all The General.  Wacky or T-Rig they find it by smell.

The new one I’m using this year with good luck is the Yum Genie - as a Neko Rig and also Chicken Rig.  Stands straight up with the seductive tail undulation...

Stocked up on a bunch of 4" Yamamoto Senkos last fall then "discovered" Fat Ika. Haven't looked back. I do like smaller worms but summer vegetation has me using stouter spinning tackle so the Ika really shines.

I was unable to fish the past few years due to supporting my son's baseball progression and game/practice schedule. This year I decided to try and carve time out for myself and fish more and went totally back to the basics. T-Rig worms, lipless cranks and spinnerbaits.

 

I went to Disney in February and caught fish on swim senkos, so that was the bait for this year.

So far all have caught bass equally well.

That looks sweet. Must be another Toledo Bend Special. I gotta get down there and fish that lake. On the bucket list.
