I have a motorguide trolling motor that the steering cable has come off of the cable stud.

Above is a picture of the parts breakdown, the cable stud is number 33. Basically the thin cable somehow is supposed to stay in the stud. The first time it came out I tried putting it back in and crimping it, this held about 2 trips. Is there any sort of trick getting it to stay in. Is the cable suppose to go entirely thru the stud? I got a better tool to crimp now, than the pliers I used the first time. I hope I can just get the cable into the stud after my first attempt distort the hole alittle.

Anybody have any tricks?

Thanks.

The inside cable is a very hard metal so just crimping the stud on with hand tools will not secure it long. I suggest that you use a file and make some shallow groves in the cable in a couple of places to give the stud a surface it can grip.
