Socalbassmaster Posted June 30, 2008 Posted June 30, 2008 does anyone know how to fix this And is this a bad sign for things to come I'm pretty handy So if I knew the way I could do it the cracks are on the top of some of the boat on both sides Any help would be great Quote
Super User fishfordollars Posted June 30, 2008 Super User Posted June 30, 2008 You gave us no info to give any advice. Where are they located if they are on a boat? Is it gelcoat? Are they around the transom or on the hull, or top deck? Quote
Socalbassmaster Posted June 30, 2008 Author Posted June 30, 2008 again sorry about that it is a 1989 ranger 390v it is on the top of the boat like the rail part of the boat. It is gel coat here is the top of the boat and u can see the cracks in the first pic Quote
Super User fishfordollars Posted June 30, 2008 Super User Posted June 30, 2008 As far as stability or safty, I do not think it is a problem. The gelcoat has weakened and begun to seperate.. It will probably require that a trained body man sand and regelcoat the top. As fas a the boat coming apart, that is not going to happen. If the cracks show up at the top of the transom behind the splashwell then it would need to be addressed. The location is strickly a cosmetic feature that you might want to address in the future. LrgMouthCatcha Posted July 1, 2008 Posted July 1, 2008 Approx. how much does it normally cost to have a trained person sand and re-gel coat a bass boat? Quote
Socalbassmaster Posted July 2, 2008 Author Posted July 2, 2008 its not about the money for me I have time and tools and supply's to do it. I just want to know how and will it be worth my time and should I put gel coat with sparkle to change the hole look of the boat Since Sag can't make up there mind I'm still out of work so I have all the time in the world.. J_Zink Posted July 2, 2008 Posted July 2, 2008 Approx. how much does it normally cost to have a trained person sand and re-gel coat a bass boat? More than what it's worth and there's no guarantee the spiderwebbing won't reappear again down the road. It's caused from stressing on the fiberglass. It's quite normal in most fiberglass boats. Unless you have lots of money I'd just consider it part of the petina of the boat. Quote
Super User Jig Man Posted July 2, 2008 Super User Posted July 2, 2008 It needs to be taken all the way down to the fiberglass to see if it is just superficial or structural. I don't have the guts to do that kind of stuff myself. I have a stress crack that just appeared on my Champion. It is on its way to the shop at 6:30 this morning to get fixed. It is a Y shaped 10" crack and I am figuring at least $200 and probably more. I'll post back after I get the estimate. Quote
Super User fishfordollars Posted July 2, 2008 Super User Posted July 2, 2008 Your looking at least 1,500.00 to do the top cap. I have an older Skeeter(1988) that I was looking to have the top redone and that is about the price quoted. As a suggestion you might want to price a wrap for just the top cap. I was quoted a price of 525.00 for the material to put a wrap on just the top cap. They can printout the wrap to match the original color or put any design and grapics you would like for that price. The price quoted was just the wrap and not the installation. I have researched the labor and it is not a hard job to install yourself. Let me know if you would like the info from the dealer that quoted it for me. They are in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area and will ship. Quote

Super User fishfordollars Posted July 4, 2008 Super User Posted July 4, 2008 I would contact several graphic companies. If they do not do it I bet you they can give you the contact numbers in your area. Good luck Quote
