Spinning reel vs line twisted.

Just have a small discussion with a guy regarding line twisted on spinning reel. He said if use expensive reel and bigger size spool, would eliminate line twisted.

Let say I use Sahara 750 size (shimano) and #4 copolymer line. What are your guys opinion?

You can NEVER eliminate line twist on a spinning reel. The way the line comes off and then reeled in puts a twist in the line for every crank on the handle. Larger spools will slow down how fast the line gets twisted. The price paid for the reel can’t change the way it happens.

IMHO, there's no way to completely eliminate line twist with spinning gear. (oops, Scott F beat me to the punch) There are ways to minimize line twist like making sure the line is spooled properly, closing the bail manually, etc. You can remove most of the twist by either walking the line out and reeling it in with nothing attached, or trailing the line out behind a boat (once again, with no lure or weight) and reeling it back in. Also, braid doesn't seem to be affected by twist as much as mono or co-polymer.

It's just one of the things you have to deal with when using spinning tackle.

The US Reel 180SX is a smaller size reel with a oversize diameter spool and was a wonderful light line finesse spinning reel. New 180SX are on eBay every once in awhile for under $40, the reel sold for $110 when the company was still in business.

Larger dia spool puts fewer twist per line inch; Pi X D = circumference or inches of line warped onto the spool each revolution. Smaller dia line has less memory, small dia line on larger diameter spool will twist less.
