Super User Koz Posted June 29, 2019 Super User Posted June 29, 2019 There's a small, one acre lagoon I've been fishing lately where I can literally cover every inch of the water by navigating the banks. It holds quality fish as I've caught a 4 pounder in there and I've also seen an 8 pounder come out of it. What I find so fascinating is that one day I can go out there and in a two hour period catch 7 or eight bass. But the next day I can go out at that same time of day with the same weather and wind conditions and barely get a bite. Changing up baits, upsizing and downsizing, changing presentations speeds, fishing different depths, none of it made a difference. It's not like this is a big lake where fish can migrate, find cover or structure, and move to different depths. It's just a 7 foot deep lagoon with some nice grass lines along two of its sides. I do realize there's more to the ecosystem of the lagoon, things like an extra day or two of hot conditions can raise water temperatures, the barometric pressure may have changed, the ever present changing of solunar cycles, and dozens of other factors. But still, when you can cover every inch of the water and not entice more than a few short strikes in a small lagoon with a healthy bass population I do find that fascinating. Quote
Global Moderator TnRiver46 Posted July 1, 2019 Global Moderator Posted July 1, 2019 I’m sure the bass find you fascinating as well........ hahah. Many times I’ve had the same luck, here today gone tomorrow. Fish have to rest too i suppose Quote

Super User Ratherbfishing Posted July 11, 2019 Super User Posted July 11, 2019 My friend would call it "irrigating" (a combination of aggravating and irritating). 1 Quote
TheRodFather Posted July 12, 2019 Posted July 12, 2019 In my previous home state, the largemouth fishing was very much like you describe. Small ponds and an occasional small reservoir were really the only places I had available for largemouth. I remember one day on a pond in late morning I absolutely slayed em (In my world anyway) on a luckycraft pointer in a bluegill pattern. Like 7 fish on 7 casts. That's a ton of action where I'm from, for LMB anyway, guys were rushing me to find out what I was throwing . After that day I was half afraid to throw the thing anymore, for fear I would loose it, since I couldn't find any backups for the bait, that's how rare that day was to me. But after I found some backups, I fished it several times after that and never a hint of a bite. Some days I would catch several on a fluke, another day a senko would get me a few. One day I would catch a couple on a spinnerbait. But nothing would be a "go to". I swear it was just a matter of me throwing something they hadn't seen in a while, and after I beat em up that day, they learned their lesson for some undisclosed amount of time. That's how the bait monkey got me. I just had to try something different all the time to get them to bite. It was so bad that I was superstitious about staying in one spot after I caught a fish, thinking they were so pressured (they were), that they would shut down when 1 of the 10 fish in the pond got sore lipped. Because that seemed to be what was happening if I didn't move and fished a spot I had caught one on I would just soak my bait and not catch another. But I digress, I have been known to over think things.......:) Now smallmouth was a different story, they were all over the ned rig in small creeks I waded, day after day after day. 1 Quote
AlTheFisherman313 Posted July 12, 2019 Posted July 12, 2019 Are you mixing up what you throw? I am in a predicament where I think I spooked my own fishing hole, try giving it a couple days off, or if you believe in solunar like I do go on a good day and time and see how it works, fish aren’t dumb though they can become “lure trained”.
