Cam Steele Posted June 29, 2019 Posted June 29, 2019 Hello BR community, I have a question regarding Monofilament line. I recently spooled up my Shimano Citica with 17 lb. test Mono and the line just doesn’t sit right on the spool. It keeps bunching up and not looking tight and orderly around the spool like my other line does.it also seems to backlash quite frequently. I’ve been fishing for a while and have a pretty educated thumb so it’s a little frustrating. What gives? Is the line to heavy for the spool or is the line itself subpar? If I could get your opinions on this I would really appreciate it. Cam Quote
Russ E Posted June 29, 2019 Posted June 29, 2019 What kind of mono filament are you using? not all mono lines are the same. as an example: 17 pound berkley trilene xl has a .015 diameter and is relatively manageable. 17 pound berkley trilene XT has a .017 diameter and is relatively stiff. you can use a line conditioner to make it more manageable. I use the KVD brand. 1 Quote

Super User jimmyjoe Posted June 29, 2019 Super User Posted June 29, 2019 Might your drag be slipping? jj Quote
Super User WRB Posted June 29, 2019 Super User Posted June 29, 2019 Tie the end of the line to something and walk off all the line and rewind it back on keeping some tension on the line near the 1st guide so the level wind can properly load the line onto the spool. It sounds like the line was wound on loose. If 17 lb mono is needed try Sunline Deifer Armillo 17 lb @ .013 dia. Tom Quote
Super User Hammer 4 Posted June 29, 2019 Super User Posted June 29, 2019 Did you keep a good amount of tension on the line when you first spooled it up..? I just spooled my Citica with 17 lb mono, and it sits flat and even.. Quote
