Oledog Posted June 26, 2019 Posted June 26, 2019 Hi guys I need some advice . After 60 plus years of using a spin caster and fly rod . I have decided to give baitcasting a try. I am torn between the Abu garcia revo 4 X-l hs and the lews tournament Mb . Let me , also add that I new to bass fishing , previously most of my fishing has been for salmon and steelhead in California. Quote
Super User Darren. Posted June 26, 2019 Super User Posted June 26, 2019 Welcome aboard! Personally, I'd stick to spinning and enjoy bass fishing first and then branch out into casting, if you want to. As well, I have no experience with either reel you mention, so not much help there. For casting, I prefer Shimano and Daiwa brands. Have Quantum, too, but prefer the others for their salt/fresh capabilities, etc. 1 Quote

Super User Log Catcher Posted June 27, 2019 Super User Posted June 27, 2019 Hello and welcome to the forum. I use the Lews Tournament MB and they have been good reels. I have seen them clearance priced on some websites so Lews is probably bringing out something new at ICAST to replace it. I will say the magnetic brakes on mine don't feel like they are doing anything so I leave them turned off. Quote
Oledog Posted June 27, 2019 Author Posted June 27, 2019 Thanks for input. I also think lews is coming out with a new reel . The Mb is on sale for $ 114 at tackle warehouse right now. Quote

Things weather wise are much better @Oledog, with any luck the summer fire season will be uneventful. Our reservoirs are full, with ample snow pack allowing skiing at Mammoth Mountain into August, and limit salmon fishing is currently going on outside the Golden Gate Bridge. I am optimistic this translates into a good Fall salmon run on the Sacramento and Klamath rivers. Quote

My next door neighbor was a helicopter pilot. He would come up every summer it seemed , to deal with the fires . It sounds like you guys will have a good salmon season. That and the steelhead fishing is something I truly miss . I lived right close to the Trinity river so I fished it practically every day . Anyways I hope you have a good summer and tight lines .
