punching rig?

Usually when punching I will rig a bead between my knot and bullet weight. My question is, is this necessary when using a skirt? Ive never used a skirt while punching, unless its a actual jig. Ive got some heavy grass in this local pond ive been fishing, and I believe there are some big bass in it. I want to create a larger profile bait while t-rigging a creature bait.

I've been using this as both a t-rig and punch rig.

Simple to make and works great.

 

The bead for me is just another color hue the fish will see.

It's not necessary with or without a skirt. 

 

I dont see any advantage to useing one especially if you snell the knot.

You're pegging the weight, so there is no need for the bead. Unlike a C-rig, the weight isn't sliding down and banging the knot and when pegged, the weight isn't knocking against the glass bead emitting noise.  The only useful thing it may do is add a bit of color, but you want the fish to focus on the plastic, not the weight or the bead. 

Like most things in this sport, personal preference and confidence play a major role in how we do things.  If using a bead is your thing, go for it.

I've never used a bead with my punching rigs, don't see any need to.
