Put's a Giant Black Eye on the sport.

Bassheads who competed within the rules may have been swindled.

Moving forward, any & most all hard earned success experienced by an angler, (especially repeated success) despite being conducted well within the rules, will be questioned - as unfairly at it may seem.

The whole thing's a hot mess.

Some one should but the man on a suicide watch -  . .

I can see it coming.

Sad to see that some people think that cheating, lying, and deception will continue and never be found. Sad as it makes you think that how many records out there are fictitious. Which are truly real?

That behavior displayed by Long not only discredits his body of work but also makes Dobyns look bad and any other business he was associated with. Ultimately, all ethical fisherman pay for his behavior as he stole from them and deceived the public.

Celebrity worship is naivete in action.  Some would call me a cynic though I would say I am a realist.  I hear and see people speaking highly of the character, goodness, and skills of celebrities, including quite a few on this forum who think some professional anglers' poo doesn't stink.  You don't know what you don't know and the true story of Mike Long is now appearing to be revealed.  Every group of people, no matter how skilled or kind they appear to be, has some bad apples.  There are no exceptions.

Who's next?  ?

I honestly have never heard of him . How’d he get caught?

He’s big in So-Cal for swimbait fishing. He was caught, on tape, snagging bass. All allegations and not confirmed by anyone.

The fact that he's removed himself from virtually all social media platforms is damning in itself. Why wouldn't he try to defend himself if it was just 'allegations'?

I am not surprised he got caught snagging bass. Lots of California trophy bass fishermen have caught their best catches by snagging, using live trout, fishing off limits water. Now he is in the same group as Lance Armstrong, steroid abusers, and other people that cheat to win.

While I completely agree that Lance Armstrong was cheating and the way he ruined peoples lives after the fact to cover his own deception is the most concerning to me but literally everyone was doing the same thing during his time as champion.  They never even gave the 2nd 3rd 4th etc...the title because they were all cheating too.  Cycling is by far the dirtiest sport out there....Lance was just really good at it lol

Some sports are so corrupt that it pushes formally moral athletes to cheat just to keep up with the rest of the cheaters.

that is exactly right.  Sad really but it is what happened. the web of deceit that Lance had and the intricacies involved it is amazing he did what he did for so long.  Not to be forgotten, he did have an incredible team around him too.

I agree. How do you change your reputation after this? He might get off legally but your name gets destroyed.

Cycling has many cheaters but not as many as bodybuilding (not a sport but they still abuse steroids), powerlifting, and weight lifting. I would say bodybuilding attracts the biggest cheaters I have met in my life. A man that has to take illegal performance enhancing drugs to compare or beat a natural athlete has no honor just like most bass fishermen agree illegally snagging a big bass deserves no recognition.

If I was him I'd move to the Midwest and just fish (the right way) for fun and stay out of the tournament scene. Just live a quiet life away from the cameras.

People like that can't stay out of the limelight for too long...they thrive on it otherwise why go through all that trouble.
