Since I'm a shore and wade fisherman primarily, I spend good money on wading boots, hiking boots, and hiking sandals.  For wading, I have a pair of Simms Flyweight boots that ran me ~$200.  I also use hiking sandals for wet wading in the warmer weather, a pair of Keens Newports that set me back about $100.  My troopers are my hiking boots made by Merrell, they ran me ~$200 and I can't kill them.  They've crawled the snowy banks of many rivers fishing winter steelhead, gone hundreds of miles through the backcountry of Michigan looking for brook trout, and many miles through the woods to fish lakes off the beaten path.  My hiking boots and wading boots are more comfy than any sneakers I've ever owned at the same price point.

Due to the arthritis in my hips and knees, I only buy high end New Balance, Asics or Brooks sneakers. So I spend a minimum of $100.00 a pair. Love to find the more expensive sneakers on sale.

I spent about $120.00 for a pair of Brooks walking/running shoes.

Based on some of the other comments I’ve read here, I wouldn’t dare say what I’ve got in some of my dress shoes?

Just bought a pair of New Balance crossfit. This type has a wide heel for lateral movement so they're also stable for getting around. NB also had wide stuff. I do a 4e. Other brands like Nike also have a 4e but I swear they're like a regular wide, maybe 2e. Very easy to tell when trying to get them on, I can't!

New balance is a very comfortable shoe. One issue they do have is that the sole will sometimes separate at the toe halfway through their life. I Goo them and they're fine after that.

Fun fact: in the late 70's I used to live in Salem NH. I'd go to the NB factory in Lawrence Mass, and they'd trace and measure my foot and make up a custom pair for me. Factory pricing, so sort of wholesale I guess. Wish I could do that today.

Sneakers? Don't wear them.  I have one pair in the closet that are probably 6 years old. Probably spent around $80 on.

However my comfortable feet are important to me.  So for a quality boot im not afraid to drop $300 on.  My redwings I've worn for years usually cost me $250. I've past two years I've converted to wearing keen hiking shoe/boots cost $120-150. They are the most comfortable, light, breathable shoes I've ever worn.  Steel toes for work, or regular for hunting or goofing around.

This isnt really about fishing per-say, but I was out today looking for a pair of nice light weight athletic shoes to wear on my boat when I go fishing.  I dont like being barefooted on the boat, but I do like to keep my boat carpet clean so I figured Id buy some shoes to wear solely on my boat.  Walked in a couple stores and started realizing a trend in prices 120, 140, 180 bucks for a pair of sneakers.  Now I am not someone who will spend more than 100 bucks on a pair of shoes with tax.  Its not affordability; rather it is principle.  My personal opinion is that people who spend 200-300 bucks on shoes are crazy, but then again I will spend 200 bucks on a fishing rod and another 200 on the reel so maybe Im the one thats crazy.  Shoes are nothing but fabric that has been cut, glued, and stitched together and I have not seen a pair of shoes in my adult life that would make me spend more than 100 bucks.  Now this was the first time I walked into a mall in years.  I usually buy all of my shoes and clothes online, but Im heading out on the water tomorrow and wanted the shoes today.  I hate malls and always feel like a loser for even being in the mall and buying online is just easier rather than walking in a store, finding something I like only for them not to have it in my size or it be way more money than Im willing to spend on a piece of fabric that someone in a third world country probably got paid 50 cents to make.  Retail stores have slimmed down their inventory so much that even I a guy that wears XL shirts and have a 36 waist feels like an obese piece of trash when I walk in a clothing store today.  So yeah I was fairly surprised at just how many expensive pairs of shoes these stores carried and how limited their sub 100 dollar shoes were and the ones they had were just awful.

Long story short. I was just curious about how much everyone else is willing to drop on a pair of shoes?  Maybe there is something Ive been missing all these years and I might need to increase how much Im willing to pay for a pair of shoes.  Maybe someone who is willing or has spent more on a pair of shoes has a justifiable and logical reason for spending so much on shoes that I can wrap my head around.  That way the very thought of spending 150 bucks on a pair of shoes doesnt make me so sick to my stomach

What?!

------------------------

I just bought a $120 pair of Merrells for fishing.  But, admittedly,  if they weren't on the 75% off clearance table, they wouldn't have gotten a second glance....I will say that they pretty sweet....I might pay more than $30 if I ever need another pair

I don’t usually go over 129.99 and I can say that the most expensive sneakers I have right now ($110) are by far the worst. Usually sneakers in the $50-90 range are better, at least for my needs and style. I will never be the hey kids look at my expensive sneakers kind of guy. I was never a fan of the expensive sneakers because they are priced mainly on you looked up the prices and know these are expensive, not because of how good they look or how good they work.

I got mine for $39.95 at the Bass Pro Catalog Outlet Store.  It’s only 12 miles from my house.  I rarely have to pay more than $50 to $60 for any footwear there.  It’s the best part of their whole operation.

Last pair I bought came from my local core skate shop.  Bought a pair of DC Lukoda for $65.

I rarely find a use for sneakers anymore now that I’m an old man. Leather boots if it’s cold, flip flops if it’s not cold. Steel toes for work

I find that's true as well.  My only real need for sneakers is for skating.  I have learned to like them for playing drums as well.  But at work (I'm a project manager) I wear casual dress shoes.  At home it's flip flops, sandals, or steel toes.

Funny story, the guys that did my garage roof all wore DC skate shoes.  They said they lasted longer than anything else, and had better foothold than boots.

50 or 60bucks.  Now work boots are a while different story. If I'm not working, I wear crocs or flops most of the time anyway

All the roofers I see have worn out tennis shoes. I get up on a few roofs almost everyday and I’ve considered it

I have an old pair of Etnies that have a very soft rubber sole. I would assume shingles and skateboards have a similar texture. (I'm 6'1", 275, so skateboards are off limits to me)

I wear Merrell Chameleons which are a mix between sneakers and hiking boots. Now that I no longer coach football I don't wear sneakers much anymore.

There's footage somewhere of one of Tony Hawk's body guards dropping in on his 14' vert halfpipe.  He's around 350.

This is me too.  Only mine are not flip flops, they are real sandals with straps.

I wear slippers inside the house a lot this time of year or on the front steps to let the dog out.

Etnies Marana were my go to before DC.  They are a great shoe that you can find around $40.  They last forever as well.  Grip tape is a bit finer grit than roofing shingles, but same concept.  It's the toe and side "ollie caps" that I think must make the difference.

I just bought a pair of Skechers for $50 on sale. That’s the most I’ve ever paid for a pair of sneakers.

I have been able to dress in jeans and sneakers at work since going back to work from the pandemic. We have no visitors so it’s been dress down all the time instead of just Fridays.

I find Dick’s has great end of year clearance sneaker sales. They have a colored dot system on the boxes. The colors represent the percentage you get off the lowest ticketed price. I got a pair of New Balance all terrain running sneakers for $23 on a 50% off sticker and a pair of Adidas for $3 on an 80% off sticker. These year I wasn’t as lucky. Got a pair of Adidas Terex sneakers for $31 not bad but not as good as last year.

They're good if your shoe size is > 13 or < 8.
