A Fluke... So simple, so fish catchy, and yet, I'm a fool with the Fluke.

Ditto.

Tried all the advice on these forums including nose hooking them. Nothing, nada, zilch. The only way they work for me is when they are the trailer on a Z-man Chatterbait.

Chatterbait.  I'd given up on them back about 10 years ago after they burst on the scene and I bought 5 of them.  Now everyone's throwing them again (and catching with them), so I've bought a couple and haven't thrown them a ton, but still zero on the catching.  I need to get on the fish and switch to a chatterbait, but this far the getting on the fish has been elusive this year.

Here is my two.

First one has already been mentioned a couple times, the Chatterbait. I can catch fish on a flipping jig, a swim jig (one of my go to lures actually), and a spinning jig (aka spinnerbait). When it comes to the bladed jig, nothing. I’ve got the Z-Man Freedom and Jackhammer in the moving jig box, but they have yet to catch me a fish.

Second one is a.........Ned rig. I know it works. I’ve seen it work here in Florida like Lake Placid, but every time I think I’ve got a good clean spot, the exposed hook gets fouled up in some kind of grass. I switch to a 4” T-rig, C-rig, or shakyhead Senko and no issues.

Yep, I’m THAT guy! :lol-045: LOL

I would have to agree with @A-Jay on the glide bait. Still have not caught a Bass with one.

I did catch a 10 pound Flathead catfish throwing one this spring.

That is not a huge accomplishment around here. I have caught catfish on nearly every bass bait I own.

I can’t catch a bass on a chatterbait. I’ve been throwing one for about a hour every time  I’ve been fishing for the past few months and getting nothing. Have no trouble with a spinnerbait though.

If you haven't tried it yet, put a Havoc Pit Boss trailer on it. I use a bluegill colored Chatterbait Elite paired with a Pit Boss in the Perfection color and it's a top producer for me. Oddly enough, though, I've tried using a Powerbait as a trailer and never got a single strike in teh same waters.

I've never caught anything on an all black bait. Some black on the bait, yes. All black, no.

And while I've caught some bass on a lipped crankbait, over the years I have lost more lipped crankbaits to snags than I have caught fish. That probably has something to do with fishing from the bank. But even the other day I tossed 3 different crankbaits and didn't get one bite. But at least I didn't lose one.

Hit the Historic James River with a black Norman and have some fun.

For some unknown reason, black Normans work on the Historic James. No where else. Just the Historic James.

Oh man...... for a river smallie man like yourself, the fluke can be so good. Use a massive hook and maybe try a green pumpkin one in clear water

I agree with others that confidence is key.  While I've caught fish on spinnerbaits, I don't have a great deal of confidence in them.  But I absolutely love the jig and spinner combo (like the Meeny Spin) which is effectively the same thing.  I've always had more confidence in curly tail plastics as opposed to straight ones.  I can't imagine anything wanting to bite a hair jig, but one of the top teams at the recent college BASS tourny cleaned up on hair jigs.

Jigs!! I've never caught a bass on them in my entire life. Numerous times I've been hammering them on a senko so I'll switch over to jigs thinking this will actually be the day I catch something, the bite turns completely off. All my jigs are weedless and every once in awhile I'll feel a bass hit it, but I have yet to hookup.

Frogs would be a close second, Ive caught a few on them over the years, but my hookup/strike ratio has to be less than 10%.

I have yet to catch a fish in a popper or jerkbait.

Until this spring I hadn't caught anything on a Senko/Dinger type soft plastic stick worm. Took care of that one and then some.

I never caught anything on any kind of frog or toad. Can't catch anything on a black buzz bait or a ned rig. I have caught a few on a full size Brush Hog.

I think out of all the stuff I own, a jig is the one thing I haven't caught a bass on!

I’m telling you. In this water, they can’t see green.

They would all be really skinny if that's the case.
