Theres a lot of "popular" baits that I havent caught fish on, but its because I haven't and probably wont ever use them. Whopper plopper, ned rig, alabama rig, big swimbaits, topwater walking baits, deep crankbaits. But one that i have used a lot with no success is a full size brush hog. Not even a bite with one. Although I am very successful with other creature baits.

I've caught fish on every lure in my arsenal except my swim jigs. I've tried all weights, trailers, speeds, lines, etc. Not giving up.

They would all be really skinny if that's the case.

Strangely, there are fats and thins. They practically look like different strains.

Chatterbait and trust me I am trying! Last time out I was wrecking them on a double Indiana spinnerbait so I figured the chatterbait should work. Lost 4 t0 snags and one I think was a tiger musky but hey I actually got a bite on one so I was surprised,

JIG-n-PIG

I finally did this 3 year ago - and now i know why pork (even though its in demand) is such a pain in the butt.

But never caught anything on (it's on my list to do) Johnson Silver Minnow and Pork Eel Trailer. Think I have seen multiple magazine covers back in the day with this as the lure that the bass are leaping out of the water with (Fishing Facts come to mind).

Lures I own/owned that haven't produced a bass;

Whopper Plopper-  Was gifted one, used it a few times,  lost it.  Don't have interest in getting another.

12'+ Cranks-  Own plenty but hardly ever have one tied on.  At some point I will spend the days to figure them out.

Ashamed to say...

Nah! I'll say it loud.. full size Brush Hog

Slay em on a Baby Brush Hog, not even a bite on a full size.

Almost the same for me. I caught 1 4 pounder on one once. I must have hit him on the head with it.!

Mine is jigs. I have not caught a fish on them. I haven’t fished them as much as other baits though. But when you get enough clumps of weeds with every cast, you’d feel that way too! @Catt has tried to help. I haven’t tried them since his last tips on them though. Can’t afford any new baits right now- got mouths to feed ! Got 1 jig a South Carolina boy gave me , and still haven’t caught one on it yet!

I think the weakest part of my game is shaky heads and drop shot.  I have barely tried either technique.  I think I have caught a fish or two on a shaky head rig, but nada on drop shot.

I'm not ashamed to say it, though.  There's 50 other ways to skin a cat(bass).

I've spent quite a few hours pulling nothing but water with buzzbaits.

In my 'defense', I do fish a lot of water in which I've found very little topwater bite, aside from frogs and toads in thicker salad.  Poppers, wake baits, walkers, prop baits, jiterbugs, ploppers, etc....they all get ignored by the bass around here when I'm working them.  Though, I've had success in other places...with all but buzzbaits.

Soft plastic lizard. I have a 10-year old pack of watermelon red flake Zoom Lizards with a couple baits missing somewhere around here. I just really don't think a basss can tell the difference between a ribbontail lizard and a ribbontail worm. They're not that smart.

Buzzbaits.  I have other weaknesses like flukes, spinnerbaits, and chatterbaits, but I've never caught a bass on the one buzzbait I own.

I can catch fish on ploppers, dingers, and paddletail swimbaits which are all similar to the above three, though.  Heck them buzzbaits.

That would almost make me cry not catching them on buzzbaits, caught one two weeks ago on a black buzzbait.  It was a 5 pounder, scared the crap out of me when it hit cause I wasn't paying attention and it almost ripped my rod out of my hand.

Jigs.  I've caught fish on them, yes, but few and far between and I have ZERO confidence in them.  I don't know why.  I KNOW they catch fish and a lot of them but just not for me yet.  I know it will just *click" for me some day but that day isn't here yet

For me it's a Tiny Torpedo. It's like a turd in a punchbowl when I 've thrown it at schooling, bait chasing smallmouth. If I threw it at shore enough I could probably get a reaction bite out of it. It does cast nice though so I have that going for me.

Until last year spinnerbaits and buzzbait.... for 14 years. Last year I couldn’t keep them off of them.

@diversity210: Hang in there on those spinnerbaits. Try a 3/8-1/2oz version with a willow and Colorado or double willow.

Now don’t run me out of town. Honestly, how could any man call himself a bass angler and NOT catch a bass on it...

drum roll, please...

JIG-n-PIG

Yup, I admit it. I’m talking the traditional deal. I’ve come close.

Now jig and something else like a worm, yes, but not the jig-n-pig.

Wah, wah, wah, and this piggy had none and cried all the way home.

With regard to traditional bass catching lures, I don’t think mine could be beat.

Caught my fare share on buzz baits over the years.  I have 3/8 and 1/2 spinner baits.  Blue gill colors, shad colors, whites, and chartreuse.  Both willow and Colorado blades.  Spinner baits just dont work for me.  Ive tried fishing them in so many different ways.  Adjusting my retrieve speed.  Ive tried fishing them at different depths.  Tried different trailers.  Nothing seems to get me bit on spinner bait.  Now Jig and chatterbaits seem to be the ones people have the most problems and I get bit plenty on a jig and I love chatterbaits.  Its weird.  Its like Im cursed when i throw a spinner bait.

The craziest part about it is Ive even caught fish using an inline spinner something no one uses anymore, but the fact that no one uses them is probably why it worked so well.  I still remember that day.  I was fishing not far from the dam.  Working an inline spinner like you would a jigging spoon and it was just working that day.  Dont know how I ended up with the inline spinner tied on or where the thing even came from because Ive never bought one, but it worked that day.

Whopper plopper and ned rig are a must.  Ned rigs are freaking deadly.  I dont understand the science behind how they work but they just freaking work.  A ned rig is just a must have for me.  Whopper ploppers are pretty much an effortless top waters that just freaking works.  I have a few of them but the monkey butt color is deadly.  Bass just cant leave it alone.

I have caught a couple dinks on Senkos.  Not much.

None on Ned Rig, or finesse in general,- and I keep trying

toads yes, frogs no

maybe because I fIsh dark to muddy water.

That was me for 14 years! Inline spinners, yes. Spinnerbaits? I’d be dead if my life depended on catching a bass on a spinnerbait until last year. I did everything just as you. Oddly enough the thing that made a difference was a change in my line. I had 14# stren (talk about old school, lol) fluorescent blue. That was the difference.  When I ran low and didn’t have any fluorescent blue line, the catching stopped again. Give it a try. My spinnerbait rig has 14# test but it isn’t fl blue and guess what... no spinnerbait bass yet this season, lol. I’m switching to fluorescent blue which I found finally.
