Rain is Gone, Now the Heat

Holy cow it's hot out down here. High of 94 degrees, 50% humidity, and a heat index of 103. The heat index jumps to 107 tomorrow. Even after 5 pm until just before sundown the heat index is over 100.

 

Thankfully, in a few weeks I'm moving a little bit north of here where the temps are only in the mid 80's and heat indices in the low 90's. I can live with that.

 

I tried fishing for about 45 minutes after work yesterday but it was brutal. I know a shady spot to fish so I might try that tonight if I get the itch.

Amen to that!  50% humidity is a nice balmy day down here!  Under our first heat advisory for the year.  Heat indexes in the 110 range with cautions issued for heat stroke. And it's still JUNE..... But, it makes for some awesome topwater fishing at daybreak!

I bank fish and because of the alligators I don't have the stones to fish at night. Thankfully, where I am moving there are no alligators.

 

The drawback to that is that where I am moving does not have stormwater lagoons like the thousands we have here. It does have lakes, but on the maps I don't see many areas to bank fish. I've thought about buying a kayak, but that probably means I have to sell my (paid off) GenCoupe and buy a new vehicle.

Been raining here on and off for a whole week, now the humidity is here.

I'd like our rain to be gone and some heat to come. We're still dealing with unseasonably cold temperatures and flooding rains. It's almost July and we're still getting 50s and 60s for highs, some low 70s, and cold rains that have once again destroyed river fishing. My home river has risen 4 feet in a day and the forecast for the next 2 weeks shows 1 day of no rain. In fact, it's raining now and thunder is in the distance. The seasons have been so strange for several years and it has continued to get worse. We're destroying the planet.

Y'all are gonna wish your lives away. Just go fishing. If it's hot wear sunscreen if it's cold wear a jacket. Humans don't control weather

I always wear sunscreen on exposed skin - red-head = burn like a lobster.

 

For me it IS the heat - I've suffered heat-exhaustion and heat-stroke in the past...that makes me more susceptible to suffering those again. For me it's an actual physiological issue and not just a matter of comfort.

I hate that for ya, i guess if it's hot you just need to stay inside. I would still caution against wishing for different weather, it's going to do what it's going to do. I try to be grateful for each day regardless of weather and my fishing opportunities are bountiful. Just my $.02

I might work...it's just as valid as any other method.

 

With me, I have to plan my excursions at least a week in advance because of scheduling issues. Of course the forecast for that range is 'iffy'...so wishing for good weather for my planned excursion IS a big part of my prep. If it's storming that day or excruciatingly hot...guess what...it's going to be 7-10 days before I can get out again. So yes, I DO wish for good weather on the day picked for my outing because if it's not good weather, it's a while before I can get out again.

We don't control the weather, but we are capable of breaking it, and we have.

You will not have them very long. I forget about gators being that far north all we have are rattlesnakes and politicians.

I’m thinking about moving to Duluth, MN. It’s listed as the top location in the country most likely not to be affected by climate change.

 

Really though it’s been very comfortable up here in the north for a month. Mostly 70’s and not humid which is pretty ideal.

Have been in Minnesota in July and August...it's hot and humid! Duluth being near lake Suprior has a decent climate if you consider -40 comfortable for 3 winter months.

If you want to play the game during the Summer you have to be able to take the heat. This applies to any outdoor sport. You can fish at night to avoid the sun but if you are afraid of overgrown lizards and other animals then maybe night bass fishing in the South is not for you. With that said today was a very hot day with temperatures in the mid 90's and a heat index over 105. There was no wind and there was +80% humidity so it felt like a sauna. I took the heat and I am glad that I did since I caught both quality and quantity. Beats being at home!

It has been warm..but am lucky enough to be able to endure.  I work, golf and fish in it.   I call it "Postman fishing".

Rain, sleet, or heat I will be doing one of the three.
