Skeeloco Posted June 20, 2019 Posted June 20, 2019 Last time this happened I oiled it up and it got my casting distance back. This time that isn't happening, I'm getting about half the distance I should. With the spool tension adjuster set to as low as it will go without popping off and the brake dial set all the way to minimum, I'm only getting about 25 yards. Two of the internal pins for the centrifugal brakes are on just as the way in came in the package. I even switched one of them off and didn't gain any distance. I use mono backing with about 50 yards of 30lb pp and 6'6" medium rod. Spool is about 2/3 full but I don't believe having less line on a casting reel affects casting like on a spinning reel. I've owned the reel for just over a year now. What can I do to get my distance back? With the reel adjusted as it currently is, I should be getting major backlashes when casting. Quote
LionHeart Posted June 20, 2019 Posted June 20, 2019 Very possible that you have a bad bearing. I had the same issue with an MB. New bearing and all is well. Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted June 21, 2019 Posted June 21, 2019 A deep cleaning should be your first step. Including bearing flush and light oil. Quote

Mike (DVT) does good work. And if something is wrong with the reel, he will find it. Your spool fill is okay. I short guessed how much braid was left on a refill spool and wound up using a reel for awhile that was only about half full. I was getting decent distance. Quote

Yes I heard about a bearing flush, I'll give this a shot. Assuming I can find some vids on YT on how to do it. 6 hours ago, LionHeart said: Very possible that you have a bad bearing. Super User WRB Posted June 21, 2019 Super User Posted June 21, 2019 Send the reel to DVT for professional service. IPT = inch per handle turn with the spool full. 1/2 full spool the spool is spinning the same revs but only 1/2 the line yardage is coming off, same thing happens when cranking it back on, the 26" IPT full spool drops to 13 IPT at 1/2 spool. It's simple math Pi X D = circumference. Tom Quote
