OnthePotomac Posted June 20, 2019 Posted June 20, 2019 As I said in my original post, I just picked one up and went inside to look around. Very solid internals. I left it lubed as it was, except for the spool bearings, which as usual, were over oiled by Shimano. Cleaned out the factory oil and gave each one a touch of Yellow Fuel and took it out in the yard spooled with 10lb Invizx , two brakes on and a 3/8th weight and threw it around for a bit and I am really impressed with the little guy, compared to my other Shimanos. No strange noises and smooth as can be. A day on the water will be a better test, but so far I am loving it. I put it on a MH 6'6" MH Carbonlite and will worm fish with it to start. Quote

puddlepuncher Posted June 20, 2019 Posted June 20, 2019 How does it feel in the hand size wise, and what Shimano reel would you say it's closest to regarding how it feels in the hand? Quote

I own a couple and I much prefer the smaller size of the SLX to my Curado K's, but at the same time I have small to medium sized hands, YMMV. I'd say it probably matches the 70 the most size wise. 1 Quote

They are small. Too small for my liking. Too bad, cause I really liked it otherwise. 1 Quote
Super User jimmyjoe Posted June 20, 2019 Super User Posted June 20, 2019 I have a Casitas with 12 lb. InvizX. Are you thinking this SLX will cast further than the Casitas?????? jj Quote
OnthePotomac Posted June 21, 2019 Author Posted June 21, 2019 It is about the same size as a Curado 70 and the spool is the same line amount as the Curado 70. So if you have a Curado 70 and like it the SLX will suit you. Not having been on the water to test for distance I cannot comment except to say that in the yard with a 3/8oz weight it took off like a rocket and that is with the spool bearings cleaned and lightly oiled. I am not concerned with distance anyway since I river fish in the grass. I have several Shimanos up to the Chronarch MGL and from what I can see looking inside , it is a pretty solidly built little reel. 1 1 Quote
FishinBuck07 Posted June 21, 2019 Posted June 21, 2019 I really like the size of the SLX because as my fishing buddy loves to tell me, I have girl hands so I can palm it very easily without getting my hand real fatigued Quote
puddlepuncher Posted June 22, 2019 Posted June 22, 2019 Thanks sounds interesting. I certainly don't need anymore reels than I own now. So I'll probably purchase this thing anyway. Quote
