Krazyfish101 Posted June 18, 2019 Posted June 18, 2019 What is your guys most impressive bonus fish while fishing for bass? Mine is a 36 inch channel cat that weighed 21 3/4 pounds. 1 Quote

Glaucus Posted June 18, 2019 Posted June 18, 2019 I don't target anything but largemouth and smallmouth bass. My most impressive bonus catch would probably be this crappie: I didn't weigh or measure it, but it's the biggest one I've ever caught, and I catch them frequently when bass fishing. It hit a Texas Rigged worm. I've caught big channel cats, big carp, and big drum when bass fishing as well, but I see bigger than the ones I've caught all the time by people who fish for anything that bites or who intentionally targeted them. I don't like to touch carp or drum. I caught a small Muskie once in a tournament. The lake is known for Muskie. Before we started my buddy told me I wouldn't catch one because they're hard enough to catch as is when you're targeting them. My first fish of the day shortly after launch was a Muskie LOL. I enjoyed that bonus catch the most, even if it was small. It took me a little while to appreciate it. At the time I was upset because I thought I had a good largemouth. I released it quickly with no photo. Doh! I'm probably going to start intentionally targeting crappie as a secondary fishing hobby. I don't mind hooking into them when I'm bass fishing. I currently have no interest in toothy, whiskery, or sucky, slimey fish. 2 Quote
Krazyfish101 Posted June 18, 2019 Author Posted June 18, 2019 Nice crappie glaucus. Funny you mention muskies I went fishing today and had at least a 50 inch air follow my spinnerbait but I can't add that as my best bonus fish because I didn't catch it but that is the reason why I brought up the subject. 1 Quote

Krazyfish101 Posted June 18, 2019 Author Posted June 18, 2019 Bluebasser86 that had to been a lot of fun. Haven't caught one of those yet just a bunch of big channels. You know that's not a bass after about 5 minutes dog'n you out on the bottom Quote
Super User Scott F Posted June 18, 2019 Super User Posted June 18, 2019 This is my most recent accidental catch. 28.5 inch walleye. 4 Quote

You know that's not a bass after about 5 minutes dog'n you out on the bottom I've caught enough big flatheads on jigs to know what it is before I set the hook. When they inhale a jig, it feels like someone grabbed your line and jerked your rod down, there's no mistaking it. If I had the video going on the bite, I even said "that's a flathead", before I ever set the hook. Only took about 10 minutes to land. Still the lake record as far as I know. Quote
Joshua van Wyk Posted June 18, 2019 Posted June 18, 2019 this 49 inch grass carp, caught him on a lipless on 10 lb copolymer. It took me 25 minutes to bring him in he couldn’t be stopped. 1 Quote
Super User Koz Posted June 18, 2019 Super User Posted June 18, 2019 Last week when I was bass fishing I caught a small bluegill. What I found interesting is that I caught it on a big Pop-R. I figure that since bluegills are notorious fin nippers he was ticked off that something was in his territory. Quote
cookieman Posted June 19, 2019 Posted June 19, 2019 recently fishing for bass using a white spinnerbait and caught a 26 inch walleye weighing 6lb 1oz. I think it was after smaller bass we were catching and got stupid and missed his target Quote
Super User TOXIC Posted June 19, 2019 Super User Posted June 19, 2019 I've caught a lot of untargeted species on Bass Lures but the "Coolest" by catch was in Wisconsin throwing a crank for bass and caught a Tiger Musky. Not a trophy size but just a neat catch and rare in its own right. Quote
Super User Choporoz Posted June 19, 2019 Super User Posted June 19, 2019 In just the last month, I've caught snakeheads, gars, snapping turtle, perch, blue cats, channel cats, crappie, bluegill, rock bass....but the "most impressive" was a few years ago on a DT-6: 1 Quote

I don't mind hooking into them when I'm bass fishing. Be careful. That's how it started with me. I fished for crappie on opening day of bass this year. I may not target bass until the crappie scatter into deep water and get harder to find. My freezer is about full of crappie and perch though, so I may fish bass this weekend. I have plenty of fish meat to last until ice fishing starts again. Quote
