LongJohn87 Posted June 16, 2019 Posted June 16, 2019 i'm having trouble with my dobyns fury and i'm looking to replace it. It was my jig and worm rod. The main problem is that it's a little to weak. i got the 703c that might be the problem... Looking for rods at around a $100-130 i can go over that budget though. Have been looking at the St. Croix mojo bass mainly. anyone have experience with it? is it sensitive for bottom contact baits and what power would you recommend for 3/16oz- 1/4 oz t rigs and 3/8 jigs. Also any other rods you would recommend?? Quote
newyorktoiowa57 Posted June 16, 2019 Posted June 16, 2019 IMO the 703 is a treble hook rod, it is way too soft for t rigs. It is basically a medium, mod fast. the 4 power dobyns would be a better choice for those baits. I would recommend the 704 or 734 in the sierra line if you can afford it. The sierra is much more crisp then the fury. Quote

I'm a fan of the lews tp-1 speed stick 7'mh. Sorry no experience with st croix Quote
Super User dodgeguy Posted June 16, 2019 Super User Posted June 16, 2019 Get a Johnny Morris signature series with Fuji alconite gudes. Quote
Super User new2BC4bass Posted June 16, 2019 Super User Posted June 16, 2019 You can find a 7'3" MHF Villain 2.0 for $149.00. Check out TT's review of the 7' MH model. There is at least one other review from a well known site that gives the 2.0 excellent marks for sensitivity. You won't lack power with the MH. Quote

I use it for t-rigs, swim jigs and weightless plastics with 12-15 lb mono. What you can't do (successfully) is match it up with heavy wire hooks. Quote

I got 5 of them in March and have since sold 3 and kept 2 that I will beat up on the rivers. Worst fishing purchases I ever made. I fell for the cult following. My favorite rod company is Fenwick. I recommend an HMG which is in your price range. 2 Quote
r83srock Posted June 17, 2019 Posted June 17, 2019 If you want to try a mojo the 7’1” mh will work well for the jigs described. It has a soft tip. If you liked to Dobyns though, I’d just up it one power. I’ve heard their customer service is great, I’d call them about eyelet. Quote

Shimano_1 Posted June 18, 2019 Posted June 18, 2019 I cant comment on the fury but have handled a few. Had a cple sierras that were nice but I felt over priced. I'd look at the shimano slx rods. Very nice sticks for the $. The mojo would be a nice choice as well or the bps carbonlite 2.0 Quote
Super User WRB Posted June 18, 2019 Super User Posted June 18, 2019 Call Dobyns and see if they will credit you on a trade in for FR734C Tom Quote

Just be careful with the HMG as it has a Carbon blend blank and all carbon blanks from any company from my experience, can be easily weakened after even a mild but localized hit. This is the price to pay for not too expensive lightness. Baby it and it will serve you well ! Quote
