Can I use straight shank hooks for all my Texas rigging needs? What is the best brand to use? I hear the hookup ratio on them is the best. I plan on using baby brush hogs, curly tail worms and senkos on them. What sizes should I get?

I have not used any straight shank hooks. I use Gamakatsu offset round bend hooks a lot. I like the 3/0 for Baby Brush hogs and the 2/0 for Ultra Vibe Speed Craws. Either size should be okay for curly tail worms in the 6" to 8" range. I have tried these in 4/0 for Senkos but had poor hook up ratio and went back to 4/0 EWG hooks for them.

Absolutely!  I use Gammy and Owner's.....and avoid using EWG if possible

If you are going to use straight shank hook, buy the extra round bend I think they are called.

I use straight shanks for everything except Senko type lures & Flukes.

I personally use EWG for everything and rarely miss fish with them. I think the idea that EWG has a lower hookup percentage is greatly exaggerated.

I'm not sure I would say a lower hookup percentage but definitely more solid hookups with straight shank.

Seldom will you see a EWG stuck in the roof of the mouth.

For me it's about the point & Mustard's Needle Point is simply the best.

Cutting points take less pressure but they cut their way in & will cut their way out.
